PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Kinship Placement Support Worker is responsible for prompt and appropriate placement of children
requiring care as referred by Child Safety Services with approved and suitable care providers. The Kinship
Placement Support Worker supports and monitors carers and the sourcing of suitable kinship care options.
Kinship Placement Support Workers are also responsible for conducting initial carer assessments and
renewal of approvals and ensuring that all licensing requirements and standards of care are met.
The Kinship Placement Support Worker will work in collaboration with Placement Support Workers, Child
Safety Services and recognised entities to identify and source suitable kin placements for children in out of
home care.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Activities
 Engage with kinship Carers to support children in all aspects of life both in the
home and wider community.
 Utilise observational and evaluation skills to contribute to the assessment of a
child, young person and carer’s needs.
 Work collaboratively with Child Safety Services, community agencies and
elders to establish and maintain sound working relationships and identify
suitable kinship care options.
Enabling service
delivery
 Identify carer training and developmental needs and/ or assist with carer
training and development to ensure the needs of children are met.
 Providing on call services through the roster with other staff.
 Complete carer inductions, conduct carer needs analysis and determine
appropriate support mechanisms to ensure carer and placement stability.
 Ensure all relevant information relating to a placement is gathered.
 Ability to engender confidence in Kinship Carers to understand the child’s
therapeutic needs and support them with growth and development.
 Complete thorough kinship carer assessments determining carer suitability and
renewal of suitability.


Ensures high quality participant records are maintained and compliant with

Position Description
SELECTION CRITERIA
Mandatory Requirement/s:
A Bachelors Degree in Social or Behavioural Sciences, Social Work or Psychology (or related discipline) is
highly desirable or Cert IV Community Services (Child Protection) with significant experience in a similar
field.
Selections Criteria:
1. Demonstrated ability to provide support and interventions for carers, to assist them to understand the
impact of trauma and the effects on the development and behaviours of a child within a framework that
upholds the best interest of the child.
2. Demonstrated understanding of the dilemmas and challenges faced by Kinship Carers and the available
supports that would assist in their role as Carers
3. Proven ability to assess and monitor individuals and families capacities to provide quality care, including
knowledge of family and social dynamics, including knowledge of risk factors that may impact on kinship
carers capacity to suitable care.
4. Possess strong communication, consultation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with
Child Safety Services, Foster Carers and other key stakeholders
5. Demonstrated abilities in problem solving, and conflict resolution with reference to management of
emotional responses for all parties involved in the process
6.
Knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection Act particularly in relation to
working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the child protection system.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must hold a current Queensland Open Driver’s licence or licence recognised by Australian laws

Must have proof of current eligibility to work in Australia (visa holders)

Successful completion of a six (6) month minimum employment period (probation) in accordance with
AnglicareCQ’s policies and procedures

Any employment ‘suitability checks’ (as required for the position).

Ability to travel.

