Official Document Verb Tenses Revised and Updated Aug – Nov 2007 1 Introduction A verb is a word belonging to the part of speech that usually denotes an action, an occurrence, or a state of being. Depending on the language, a verb may vary in form according to many factors, possibly including its tense, aspect, mood and voice. It may also agree with the person, gender, and/or number of some of its arguments (subject, object, etc.). The verb is the heart of a sentence. Every sentence must have a verb. Recognizing the verb is often the most important step in understanding the meaning of a sentence. There are constantly new verbs being added to our vocabulary. This can be due to technology and new inventions, to contact with other cultures and countries, or could also be due to fossilization. In this research, we have updated the prior version of this document by adding new verbs. We found many different verbs from a variety of resources such as dictionaries, Internet, books, magazines and much more. This is an assignment this group did together, but not only for a grade. Our main goal is to help the English community. We hope this document becomes useful and it continues to be updated to help our future community members. 2 Prof. Aníbal Muñoz Official Document- Verb tenses Courses: 3232, 3201, 3021, 3022 REGULAR VERBS Regular verbs form the past and past participle by adding –d or –ed to the basic form.
