Marine Ecosystems Project…woo hoo!
The ocean is one big, united, moving body, but there are several ecosystems that have
unique and common properties. Your mission is to teach the class about one such
marine ecosystem...I am feeling a bit lazy. You will research your topic extensively,
create a website and present it to class (10 min.). To help the class follow along, you
will create a worksheet to accompany your presentation. Extra visuals, and hands-on
materials is a bonus. Creating a website is not as difficult as you might think. There are
basic templates to use using Microsoft Word (see Resources below). You will work in groups
of 2 or 3. You will get a grading rubric soon.
We will spend only a couple of days only in the library or computer lab, so you will have to
work together after school, on weekends, whatever is necessary. Please see me or email me
as you have any questions. Be creative, show your computer skills, make something of
which you can be proud.
Objectives:
To
To
To
To
develop oral presentation skills
work successfully in groups
learn about marine ecosystems
create a web site
Questions you should be covering in presentation and worksheet:







What flora and fauna exist there?
Who is atop the food chain? At the base?
What are the common abiotic factors?
What are the characteristics of the flora and fauna? What specific
adaptations allow the species to thrive in this environment?
How do the flora and fauna interact with all of the abiotic factors?
How are humans affecting the environment (fishing, recreation,
pollution, medicine)?
Where do these ecosystems occur on Earth?
Due Dates: don’t know yet, get back to you later.

Important Notes (add more as they come up):




You must cite your sources in a bibliography
All words must be your own, even when you are paraphrasing, it is
plagiarism without documenting sources
o You must use proper format to cite websites
