In the year 1865, the first show was held in the Jamison Hotel Yard, and was called ‘The Grain Show.’ Later on it became known as the ‘Agricultural Show’, and for some considerable time was held in the old showgrounds at the corner of Malmsbury Road and Knox Street, and later at the grounds known as Middleton Park. Daylesford & District Agricultural Show will run under VAS Ltd Rules & Guidelines. A Copy is available in the Secretary’s Office. Intending exhibitors are requested to peruse carefully the Rules relating to Entries etc. particularly as to the Section and Class in which they propose to exhibit. 10. Exhibits will be received at the Pavilion no later than 9.15am on Show Day. No Exhibit will be received after judging has started. Judging will commence at 10am sharp, unless otherwise stated. Every Exhibitor, where pertinent, on making the Entry, will receive a card with the Section, Class and Number of the Exhibit thereon, which must be fixed firmly on the Exhibit, without the production of which no Exhibit will be allowed in the arena, and no vehicle or stock or any kind not entered for exhibition will be allowed to remain in the arena, except for special purposes. No judge shall be an exhibitor in that Section in which he/she is judging. All Exhibits must be owned by the Exhibitor, who may be required to lodge with the Secretary the required Certificate to that effect. Should it be proved to the satisfaction of the Committee that an animal or any other exhibit has been entered under a false name, pedigree, or description for the purpose of misleading the Committee or judges as to the qualification or properties, the violation by an exhibitor of any one of the regulations will involve the forfeiture of premium awarded him. Proof of ownership to rest with the exhibitor. All Stock Exhibits must be of the breed as entered or no prize will be awarded. The judges shall sign and give their reports to the Committee, and their decisions, as confirmed by the Committee, shall be final. Protests against the decisions of the judges to be lodged with the Secretary within one hour of the judge’s decision, with the sum of $10.00 which will be forfeited should the protest be considered frivolous or vexatious. Any person insulting or interfering with the judges during the show will be subject to removal from venue and the prizes, if any, awarded to them forfeited. Any person refusing to attach the prize card on any exhibit to which the prize is awarded and to keep the same on during the hours of exhibition will, on proof thereof to the committee, be disqualified from receiving all prizes awarded to the said person during the Show. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. 21. 22. 23. 24. 25. 26. 27. 28. 29. 30. The Society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by any exhibit and it will be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall not hold the Society responsible and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from such accident. The Society will not, in any circumstance, hold itself responsible for any loss or misdelivery of livestock or other exhibits at the Society’s Exhibition or any loss or damage thereto, nor for any loss by accident, fire, storm, damage by water, flood or lightning. Exhibits and displays will be accepted only on this condition. The judges will be distinguished by a Blue Badge; the Stewards by a Coloured one. Water will by provided for stock. Every horse must have a good halter. Every dog must have a chain and a plain collar, without any name or mark, with the Entry Ticket attached, without which it will not be allowed in the arena. Cattle and horses, except foals at foot, must be led in and out of the arena, and also be tied up when not being led or ridden. Cattle Tattoos (pedigree) to be checked by Stewards prior to judging. No exhibit can be removed from the venue until 3.30pm on the day of the show. Exhibitors in all Sections must strictly attend to the instructions of the Stewards as to placing Exhibits etc. Any decoration or Ribbons or Prize Cards from any other show prior to judging will cause disqualification of the exhibit. Any Prize or Prizes awarded by the Society at any of its exhibitions left unclaimed for 3 months may be Forfeited, or Cancelled by the Committee of Management. If a prize winning animal does not parade in the Grand Parade all prize monies and/or trophies will be forfeited.. Prize Money will not be paid until after the Grand Parade. NOVICE: Not to have won a first prize, competing singly, in open competition at any Agricultural Show. (A win in a Novice class does not prevent entry) Competitor’s age to be taken at the day of show. Proof may be requested. Once judging has commenced, no further competitors may come into the ring. Ribbons awarded to Third Place in all livestock events. Aggregate Points: see relevant sections. In the case of a dispute as to the construction of any of these regulations, the same will be determined by the Committee of the Society, whose decision will be final. The Committee reserves the right of refusing or cancelling any entry without giving reasons for so doing. Stewards have the right to re-class an article if it is obviously entered in the wrong class. Exhibitors and stall holders are to pay admission. 3 31. Please note: District Radius – 25km from Daylesford Post Office. 32. The Committee reserves the right to alter, delete from or add to this schedule as circumstances arise. 33. The use of tranquillisers, stimulants or any drugs capable of affecting the performance or behaviour of animals is forbidden. 34. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the Show and that testing of all animals is at the owner’s risk. Testing for forbidden substances will be carried out under veterinary supervision. Random swabbing may take place. 35. No person who is in arrears with regard to entry fees, subscriptions, or any other Show charge is eligible to compete at any Show held by or affiliated with VAS Ltd. Proof of payment will be required before any restriction will be lifted. NOTE: not only is the above a rule of VAS Ltd but is expected that this policy will be followed by every Member and affiliated organisation. 36. If an animal breaks loose and causes damage to another animal, person or property it is the responsibility of the owner of that animal to have insurance to cover the damage. Farm insurance would cover animals at the show if the farmer informs their insurance company that they take animals to show. 37. Good Hands 2014 Competition qualifying period 1st December 2012 to 28th November 2013. No entry fee, Certificate & Ribbon only. Competitors must ride using an ordinary snaffle, single jointed in the centre, the mouthpiece must be smooth and of the one metal, with or without a cavesson noseband. A gear check may take place. Straight bar snaffle, drop nosebands, whips & spurs are not allowed. To be judged solely on riding ability. Winners eligible to compete at 2014 VASL Championship Show. Only holders of 2013 Good Hands Qualifying Certificates will be eligible to compete for the Challenge Trophy at Saddle Horse Championships. No entry fee will be charged. Good Hands qualifying certificate must accompany entry form. The Championship Competition shall be judged on the same basis as the qualifying competitions, but the Judge, before finally making his or her award, shall require his or her six finalists to execute a figure 8 at a canter, ride away from the Judge, return at a slow canter, stop at the Judge’s signal and back. Equipment used must be as for the Qualifying Competition. The names of the winners will be engraved on the Challenge Trophies. VAS Ltd may, at its discretion, vary the conditions governing the qualifying and Championship Competitions. 3 RING HORSE PROGRAM AFFILIATED WITH EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION OF AUSTRALIA. SECTION B HACKS, GALLOWAYS, PONIES & BREED CLASSES. NO STALLIONS permitted in Rings 1, 2 & 3. All prize winners must parade in Grand Parade at approx. 2.30pm. If a competitor in this Section does not parade, their prize money will be withheld, their Prize winning & Championship award performances will be forfeited, and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria will be notified of any infringements in respect of Parades. All Hacks, Galloways & Ponies will be measured by the Measuring Steward in the event of a dispute, unless holding current RAS or EFA cards. All horses’ ages from 1st August. Riders without approved EFA headgear shall be ineligible to compete until rectified. This applies to all events, not just under age competition. The retaining harness must be secured and fastened at all times. A competitor who wins a Championship in an Open Saddle Class in Rings 1, 2 or 3 should not enter the equivalent class in another ring. No long boots in riding events under 18 years. SHOW HUNTERS: To have more substance than the modern show horse, but still maintain the quality. They are expected to move freely at all paces. They may be expected at any time to gallop for the judge, but are not expected to jump. Presentation of Show hunters is more subdued. There should be no coloured brow bands or multicoloured hair ribbons or flowers on riders. Junior riders should not wear top boots. Show Hunters may compete in the open rings as well as the show hunter ring. First Season/Newcomers not to have been shown under saddle prior to August 1st 2013. The ‘MacDonald Trophy’, presented by the MacDonald Family, will be awarded to the most successful individual competitor in Light Horse 4 Sections, Classes 1-83. Here’s what you need:250g sultanas, 250g chopped raisins, 250g currants, 125g chapped mixed peel, 90g chopped red glace cherries, 90g chopped blanched almonds, 1/3 cup sherry or brandy, 250g plain flour, 60g self raising flour, ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, ½ teaspoon ground cloves, 250g butter, 250g soft brown sugar, ½ teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind, ½ teaspoon almond essence, ½ teaspoon vanilla essence, 4 large eggs. Here’s what you do:Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferable overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture into a prepared tin 20cm square, straight sided, square cornered tin and bake in a slow oven for approximately 31/2 – 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin. NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size, it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4 or 6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3 or 4 pieces. 27. Open to carrot cake enthusiasts everywhere 1st Prize $15, 2nd Prize $5, Entry 50c Note: Regulations for Carrot Cake Competition are the same as the Regulations for the Rich Fruit Cake Competition. 18 Here’s what you need:Olive oil, to grease, 3 (about 350g) carrots, 1 cup (150g) self-raising flour, ½ cup (75g) plain flour, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda, ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ½ cup (80g) brown sugar, ¾ cup (185ml) oil, ½ cup (125ml) golden syrup, 3 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla essence, ½ cup walnuts Here’s what you do:Preheat oven to 170oC. Grease a 20cm (base) round cake pan lightly with oil, and line with nonstick baking paper. Peel and grate the carrots, and set aside. Sift the flours, bicarbonate of soda and cinnamon into a large bowl. Put the brown sugar, oil, golden syrup, eggs and vanilla in a separate bowl. Use a balloon whisk to mix until combined. Pour the oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Use a wooden spoon to stir gently until just combined. Stir in the grated carrot and walnuts. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 1 hour. Set aside for 5 minutes, before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely. NOTE: Regulations for Junior Boiled Fruit Cake Competition are the same as the Regulations for the Rich Fruit Cake Competition. Here’s what you need:375g Mixed Fruit, ¾ cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon mixed spice, ½ cup water, 125g butter, ½ teaspoon bicarbonate soda, ½ cup sherry, 2 eggs, lightly beaten, 2 tablespoons marmalade, 1 cup self-raising flour, 1 cup plain flour, ¼ teaspoon salt. Here’s what you do:Place the mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, then remove from the stove, add bicarb soda and allow to cool. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients then place in a greased and lined 20cm round cake tin. Bake in a moderately slow oven for 1½ hours or until cooked when tested. 22.
