John McIlwain received notice last night of the death of his only son at Cadillac. The young
man was about 22 years of age.

John McIlwain, an old settler of Evart Township, died Tuesday morning age 76 years, 2
months and 4 days. He was born in Ireland. The funeral will be held this morning, Friday,
from the home of his niece, Mrs. Maggie Taylor of the village.

Anna Elizabeth McIlwain, daughter of John and Margaret Jane Hewthorne McIlwain was
born March 6, 1881 at Newton, Hamilton County, Armough, Dublin, Ireland and passed
away Sunday, June 22, 1930 at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 15 days. She came to New
York from her native land in April of 1900 and to Evart in August 1922. Oct. 27, 1907 she
was united in marriage with Conrad John Kaberle who with two children, Aline and John,
are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother. Maggie Jamison of Dublin,
Ireland, Fannie Brown of London, England, Janet Mcilwain of Glendale, California and many
other relatives and friends are also left to mourn the passing of one whose kindly ways
endeared her to all. Funeral services conducted by Rev. E.T. Smith of the M.E. Church were
held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at the house of Mrs. Maggie Taylor and interment made in
Forest Hill Cemetery.

William Joseph McIlwain whose serious illness was announced in last week’s Review
passed away at his home in Evart Saturday, July 5.
William Joseph McIlwain was born May 12, 1849 in Newtown, Hamilton, Ireland. He came
to Evart May 28, 1873. His first employment was with Mark Ardis. In 1877 he purchases a
farm six miles south and east of Evart where some years later he moved his family.
Sept 19, 1876 he married Ida May Weightman to them were born seven children, 2 dying in
infancy and a son George, died Aug 12, 1898. Mrs McIlwain died in 1886. In 1888 he
married Otalie Boyd and to this union were born two children. He remained on the farm
until November 1923 coming to Evart then to make his home.
He leaves to mourn his widow and children, Mrs. Mary Sooy, William Maggie Taylor, Hattie
McCormick, Pearl Fleming and Lewis McIlwain of this place.
Funeral services were held from the home on Monday conducted by Rev. M.A. Braund and
interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Ida May McIlwain d. 7 Apr 1887 obit 15 Apr 1887 p. 5 col 3
The review last week made brief mention of the death of Mrs. Ida M. McIlwain at her home
in Evart on April 7, 1887, today we give a few additional particulars. Deceased was born in
Galesburg, Kalamazoo County Sept 22, 1855 and was the 11th child of Dr. G.R. and Mary
Wightman; she was married to W.J. McIlwain Sept 19, 1876 and had resided in Evart since
that time. During her residence here she had made many warm friends, proving herself to
be a devoted mother, a loving wife and a worthy neighbor. She was the mother of seven
children and leaves a husband and six children, also her father Dr. Wightman who is now
living in Wayland, Allegan county, Mich. Mrs. Hattie M. Rawson, Wayland, Mrs W.S. Kirby of
Galesburg, Kalamazoo County, Miss Minnie Wightman of Wayland and a large circle of
friends to mourn her loss. Her funeral last Saturday afternoon was largely attended and her
remains were interred in Forest Hill Cemetery. The children will be brought up under the
care of Mrs. P.S. Camp, a very worthy lady.

W.J. McIlwain lost his infant child on Wednesday evening from cholera infantum after an
illness of about 30 hours.

A little girl of W.J. McIlwain, aged one year the 26th of this month, died on Monday evening
June 21. The funeral was held on Wednesday by the Rev. J.N. Crittenden.
