Special Issue On Lymphoid Pathology
Features Full-Color CD-ROM
Up-to-date, comprehensive, must-have guide by experts in the field
Your best practice resource on Lymphoid Pathology
A special issue of the journal Toxicologic Pathology (Vol. 34, issue 5) highlights
the normal structure and pathology of the lymphoid system and features a full-color CDROM of lymphoid organ histopathology.
“The papers have used large numbers of photomicrographs to provide a practical
atlas for toxicologic pathologists, toxicologists, and immunologists,” says Robert
Maronpot, guest editor of the special issue and Chief of the Laboratory of Experimental
Pathology at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
The special issue follows up on guidelines developed by the Society of
Toxicologic Pathology (STP) in 2005 to address new FDA rules requiring
immunotoxicity testing on all new investigational drugs or medicinal products. It fulfills
a need among pathologists and toxicologists for a guide to gross and microscopic
examinations of lymphoid tissues as necessary and pivotal first steps in the assessment of
new drugs for immunotoxic potential.
Dealing with normal structure, function, and histology as well as pathology of
each major lymphoid system tissue, there are also papers on enhanced histopathology for
evaluating lymphoid tissues and a paper dealing with immunohistochemistry of lymphoid
organs.
“The special issue serves as a mechanism to provide photomicrographs to
illustrate the 2005 STP Best Practice Guidelines for Routine Evaluation of the Immune
System,” says Maronpot
The emphasis is primarily on rodents, although a small number of canine and nonhuman primate photomicrographs have been added when available. Contributing authors
are from government, industry, and research organizations.

Published seven times a year, Toxicologic Pathology focuses on the
multidisciplinary elements that constitute toxicologic pathology, including spontaneous
and experimentally induced morphological and functional changes, environmental
exposures, case reports, risk assessment and investigative techniques. Toxicologic
Pathology is the official journal of the Society of Toxicologic Pathology, the leading
professional organization devoted to toxicity studies, including the preclinical safety
assessment of new drugs, chemicals, and biologicals.
