Voluntary Services Volunteer Role Outline CARDIAC OUTPATIENTS DEPARTMENT Role To act as a “Welcomer” to support the staff in the smooth running of this department. To provide support to help enhance the patient experience. Summary of the role Provide a warm friendly welcome to patients and their carers entering the department. To guide and if necessary escort patients to other areas of the hospital from the department and to assist staff in handing out patient surveys. Photocopy and prepare patient guidance and other forms To guide/escort patients and their carers to other related departments within the hospital i.e.bloods, wards, transport, x-ray & MRI Hand out patient surveys and assist patients in completing them if required To inform staff if some patients and their carers are becoming stressed and anxious. To be able to recognise when to refer clinical queries to the appropriate member of staff and never give a personal opinion. Ability to work as part of a team and to work on your own initiative Good knowledge and use of the English language Ability to pay attention to detail Good verbal and non verbal communication skills Consistently reliable and punctual To be able to respect confidentiality A full local induction will be given by the department and a Trust Induction offered once you have started.
