The 21st International Exhibition of Show Business, Installation & Broadcast Technology – being held at Rimini Fiera from April 5th to 8th 2008 – is ready for this edition to lead trade members down the road to new horizons, proposing new generation products, professional updating and technical networking between companies and trade members. The expo showcase of the leading exhibition at international level for audio, lighting and video technology and services for show business, organized by Rimini Fiera with the sponsorship of TEN – Technology & Entertainment Network Design and SILB Italian Dancehall Owners Syndicate, will be further expanded in 2008 by first-time proposals regarding installations and broadcast. Rimini Fiera has officially opened registration for SIB 2008. Allocation of space to exhibiting firms at the expo centre will begin in the second half of October, as soon as the first edition of SIB FORUM ends (18-20 October 2007). SOUND POWER 2008 Following up on the success and unanimous appreciation with which previous editions met, during SIB, the fourth edition of Sound Power will be back, more powerful than ever. Among the Rimini exhibition‘s leading edge features, there has always been the setting up of demo areas at the disposal of professional visitors for personally testing the performance of the new product lines presented in the expo section. Sound Power further boosts this record. It is in fact the only international opportunity for pro audio trade members to see on show and hear the most advanced innovative sound reinforcement systems currently on the market actually in action under outdoor working conditions. Sound Power 2008 will be staged in a large reserved outdoor zone alongside the West entrance, equipped to ensure the best performance of the selected sound systems: high powered systems that this time will also feature impressive use of digital electronics applied to the results of the latest research in electro-acoustics. Once again six magnificent systems will face the challenge, set up in a dedicated area, fenced off to ensure critical detailed listening conditions, simulating as closely as possible the end use for which they are destined once they are operating on the live music circuit, in indoor venues – nowadays well equipped with avant-garde technology – or in the large spaces of indoor sports arenas, stadia and summer festival sites. As usual, the Sound Power area will be equipped with two free-standing scaffold towers fitted with motors able to raise and position the loudspeaker enclosures as required. There will also be a central video screen to display technical information and images during the performances. The regulation ten-minute performances will be divided into two parts. The first five minutes of audio testing will be entirely dedicated to a piece of music created specially for Sound Power, using sessions from a project prepared in collaboration with specialist record label Sunlightsquare Records (www.sunlightsquare.co.uk).. The exclusive audio tracks recorded for Sound Power 2008 are by two great musicians of the calibre of Dave Weckl, on drums, and John Patitucci, on bass. The sound of the instruments - recorded according to the strict criteria of GRP, the American jazz record company founded by two gurus of the music world (musician Dave Grusin and producer Larry Rosen), is the work of Bernie Kirsch, ex-sound engineer with Chick Corea, who through the years has recorded a great deal of the Los Angeles label’s catalogue. Kirsch, aided by the best analogue studio hardware - Neve series 8068 console, Studer A800 2-inch analogue tape machine, Altec-RCA-Royer ribbon microphones and AKG-Neumann-Sony tube models – managed to obtain a sound as close as possible to that produced during a live performance: The utmost dynamics without using compressors or artifices that could alter the natural sound. By means of an exclusive Sunlightsquare records Ltd licence, Sound Power 2008 will have the audio tracks at its disposal for the entire duration of the event, to produce live mixes, using the best digital mixing consoles for live concerts available on the pro audio market. The choice of CD tracks used for the remaining five minutes of the performance will on the other hand be left to manufacturers, to demonstrate the characteristics of their respective systems. Sound Power 2008 performances, programmed by the event’s coordinator, Toni Soddu, will begin at 12 noon and end at 6 pm every day at SIB. The 4th Sound Power is organized by Rimini Fiera SpA. THE INTERNATIONAL SCENOGRAPHY MASTERS The march towards SIB 2008 by the international theatre and cinema scenography masters continues. With the autumn, the meetings-workshops start again with the most famous designers organized by The Scenographer, the first worldwide magazine on the culture of scenography, in partnership with SIB, Peroni and Delfini Group. There is growing expectation for the meeting on 10th October in Milan, at Brera Academy of Fine Arts, with Japanese scenographer Setsu Asakura, who will meet students, lecturers and trade member, along with Mr. Inoue, Director of the famous Tokyo Nissei Theatre, Masataro Imafuyi, undisputed master of the Shiamisen - the typical string instrument of Kabuki theatre - and the great authoress and dramatist Masako Takeda. In the program of master-classes, Setsu Asakura follows Pier Luigi Pizzi and precedes other illustrious world-level names. In fact, the personalities announced for the coming meetings include Sir Ken Adam (Oscar for Barry Lindon by Kubrick and The madness of King George), Peter Lamont (Oscar for Titanic), Maurizio Balò and Ezio Frigerio. The participation of other great professionals is awaiting confirmation. After Milan, the workshops move to Venice and then Rimini Fiera, where three internationally famous masters will be hosted during SIB 2008. The cycle of 12 master-classes will end in London.
