FUNERAL BENEFIT
1.
POLICY STATEMENT
a) Objectives
1.1
To define the various elements making up the total funeral benefit.
1.2
To ensure that the various requirements in respect of funeral provisions
are satisfied.
1.3
To ensure that the company has made adequate provisions in respect of
its employee’s funeral cover needs.
2.
POLICY
2.1
The funeral benefit is compulsory to all permanent employees of the company.
2.2
The funeral benefit is structured as follows:

2.3
The above benefit will be at a cost of R 6.38 per month. The amount of R 3.19 will be
deducted from the employee’s salary on a monthly basis.
2.4
The company will contribute R 3.19 per employee on a monthly basis, regardless of the
employee’s choice of cover. (Please refer to section 2.6 and 2.7 in this regard)
2.5
On entry into this scheme the employee will be required to complete a nomination form
in which he/she stipulates the dependant(s) to be covered. Where there are adopted
children and/or children with different surnames, the employee must provide proof in the
form of a certificate copy of that child’s identity document. This will be forwarded to
Safrican for the necessary cover details.

Members may elect to contribute double the monthly fee, namely R12.76 in which case
the benefit structure will be as follows:

2.7
Members may also elect to cover their parents and other dependants at an extra cost to
the employee. (Kindly contact the HR dept for more information). Proof of relation must
be submitted to the HR department to forward to Safrican for application of extra cover.

2.8
All claims must be submitted to the HR department with the relevant documentation. I.e.
claim form and certified copy of death certificate. Payment of benefit will be immediate
upon proof rendered.
2.9
In the case where money is needed before proof can be rendered, the company will
assist by giving the employee a personal loan equal to the cover as stipulated in section
2.2. The member is required to give the necessary proof within 15 days of death. If
proof is not rendered within this period the loan will be treated as a personal loan.
Where the company has granted a loan, Safrican will refund the company upon
presentation of death certificate.
2.10
Should the member wish to change any of above selections (2.6 & 2.7), such changes
will only be processed on an annual basis in January of every year. It is the
responsibility of the member to notify the HR department of any such changes.
