(Æ) has an immediate opening for a Historical Archaeologist. This is a regular, full-time position. Æ is a consulting firm with several locations throughout California and Oregon that specializes in cultural resource management (CRM), including prehistoric and historical archaeology, paleontology, and architectural history. Required Duties and Skills: The successful candidate will prepare proposals; develop and implement research designs and treatment plans; supervise field excavations and material cultural analyses; write technical reports; and maintain project schedules and budgets in consultation with the Historical Archaeology Program Manager. The ability to coordinate with clients is essential. Applicants should have experience directing testing and data recovery excavations at historic period sites, performing archival research, and preparing technical reports, and should also have an interest in eighteenth-, nineteenth-, and/or twentieth-century research issues and material culture. Experience in urban archaeology, Spanish Mission-era sites, analysis of contemporary historical materials, and familiarity with the Harris Matrix recording system is desired. Having a current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification would be a plus. All applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of prior experience, a strong working knowledge of federal regulations (National Historic Preservation Act [NHPA] and National Environmental Policy Act [NEPA]), and proven written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is also important. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, good communication skills, work well with others, and have the ability to manage multiple projects. Education/Experience: M.A. or PhD degree in historical archaeology and demonstrated ability to manage excavations and reporting of highly complex stratified sites is required. A minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in CRM and a Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification in good standing are also required.
