Take Charge Juvenile Diversion Program Receives UM Philanthropy Grant
(Forestville, Maryland) Take Charge Juvenile Diversion Program was selected by the graduate
students in Program on Philanthropy and Nonprofit Management at the University of Maryland
to receive their Fall 2011 Mentoring Fund grant in the amount of $10,000! Take Charge
Program is the only organization to be selected for a grant award in consecutive years!
The program in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Management is made possible through a gift from
Bruce and Karen Levenson, whose goal is to produce graduates committed to advancing the
work of nonprofits and to introduce students to the importance of philanthropy in society and
their own lives.
The School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park, provides graduate and
post-graduate studies in comprehensive range of domestic and international policy areas.
Situated near the nation’s capital, the school affords students and faculty access to the broad
spectrum of governmental and nongovernmental agencies that formulate and implement policies
affecting the economy, the environment, welfare, children and families, and international
relations.
Take Charge Program Juvenile Diversion Program, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization
specializing in juvenile prevention, intervention and family strengthening programs. Created as
an alternative to detention, school expulsion and suspension; the program focuses on cultural
pride, family pride, and academic enhancement. Take Charge has been providing services to atrisk youth and their families in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area for over 20 years—
assisting over 500 families annually.
