On-farm procedures – the verbal or written instructions to staff on procedures for pig
health, welfare, and management.

Select pig breeding stock.

1.1
Pigs in the required weight range are performance tested in accordance with
on-farm procedures.

Performance indices are calculated from performance test results.
1.3
Superior pigs are selected in accordance with breeding programme objectives.
1.4
Selected pigs are visually appraised, and those meeting the required standard
are selected as breeding herd replacements or for sale, in accordance with onfarm procedures.

1.5
Selected replacement pig breeding stock meet the required number to maintain
the breeding herd at target numbers in accordance with on-farm procedures.
1.6
Identification devices are safely and humanely applied in accordance with onfarm procedures and the welfare code.

Prepare selected breeding stock for sale.

Selected breeding stock for sale are held in lairage until predetermined sale
weight is reached in accordance with breeding programme sale requirements
and on-farm procedures.
2.2
Selected breeding stock for sale are treated in accordance with breeding
programme sale requirements and on-farm procedures.
