Hwa Chong Institution (High School Section) Humanities Department Geography: Winds and Rain Name: ____________________ ( ) Date: ________ Class : Sec 3 __ 1 Coastal areas experience cooler day temperatures compared to areas further inland. Name the wind responsible for this. Draw an annotated diagram to explain its formation. (remember to use a pencil, box it [4] and include a title) cool winds blow from to sea, cooling coastal temperatures during the day 2 Draw an annotated diagram to explain the formation of relief rain. [3] 1 3 On the outline map below, show the following: Low Pressure and High Pressure zones in December Direction of winds in December. These winds are drawn towards the low pressure areas of Australia. 2 [4] 4 Describe the effect of this monsoon on the climate of India and Malaysia. (refer to b the rainfall charts of Bangalore, India Kuala Lumpur below.) (NE Monsoon), hence KL gets a lot of rain in October to December But the winds that blow out of India are dry. So India receives little rain from this monsoon. Hence Bangalore receives only 22 mm of rain compared to 220mm rain for KL in December. 3
