“Landfill Site Suitability Analysis for Municipal Solid Waste Using
Analytical Hierarchy Process”

Summary
A high resolution satellite (quick-bird, 0.6mt.) image is used to identify the
suitable site for landfill mainly in Western Part of Lucknow City. Initially
image is bifurcated into different topographic layers such as Landuse,
Road/Transportation network, Soil, Geomorphology, Lithology, Slope etc.,
are prepared by digitisation using GIS tools. After site survey of the suspect
location, twelve sites have been identified for dumping purpose. The final
decision is taken by the multi criteria decision making tool-Analytical
Hierarchy Process (AHP) which is done by Expert Choice tool.

Summary
The goal of the study is to evaluate the possibility to extract energy from the
municipal solid waste by adopting the environmental control technologies or
green technologies. Green technologies are the alternative options of
traditional method for energy recovery that is considered will need auxiliary
equipment for the control of any emissions or effluent resulting from the
process and that reduces environmental damages created by the products and
technologies for peoples' conveniences. Adoption of green technologies
improves the various environmental problems such as air pollution, waste
pollution, land pollution, greenhouse gas emission etc. In these perspectives
some efforts are developing as an alternative technology, also known as
green technology.
