Fact Sheet for Regional E-waste Recycling Program

Definition of Electronic or E-waste from DEP: Electronics or e-waste means a device or component
thereof that contains one or more circuit boards or a cathode ray tube that is used primarily for data
transfer or storage, communication, or entertainment purposes, including but not limited to, desk top and
lap top computers, computer peripherals, monitors, copying machines, scanners, printers, radios,
televisions, camcorders, video cassette recorders (“VCRs”), compact disk players, MP3 players,
telephones, including cellular and portable phones, and stereos.
Price/Cost (use for 2010-11 budgets) - no additional cost for gaylords, training, loading or transport of
electronics; no requirement that municipality supply fork lift, loading dock, etc. for loading


o All other residential electronic devices
o Municipal or school computers or laptops (no CRT monitors)

Fluorescent bulbs, including CFLs (compact fluorescent lightbulbs)

Special one day collection costs - Based on specifics and participation levels at the collection event.
Will charge at cost for labor, forklift rental, etc. as needed.

School and Board of Education electronics - Schools and school districts within the HRRA region
should discuss collection logistics and options with municipal staff responsible for the residential ewaste recycling program in their town/city to determine if school e-waste should be brought to a single
site in town for collection. For Sherman and Brookfield schools, please note that your municipalities
have an agreement allowing residents to use the New Milford Recycling Center.
* CRT - cathode ray tubes are the only TVs and monitors for which there will be a $.12/lb charge. LCD or plasma TVs and
monitors will be collected at no charge from schools and municipalities.
