Research Project Multimodal Evidence of Learning In both Research Project A and B, Assessment Type 1 (Folio) and Assessment Type 2 (Research Outcome) can be presented in a written, oral or multimodal form. The inclusion of multimodality as an assessment option in the Research Project recognises the experience of multimodal texts that many students bring into the classroom, together with rapid changes in technology. “…the world that students interact with out of school is assuming another set of skills: the ability to communicate, at least to receive communication, through multimodal, mainly electronic, delivery vehicles. Television, computer games, computer encyclopedias, internet, magazines, film, music-video clips, mobile phones and even many school text books are offering messages in multimodal formats …” (Vincent, 2004, p1) Evidence can be presented as: Written words (handwritten or ICT generated) – prose, reports, letters, journal entries, bullet point notes, powerpoint presentation, annotated diagrams/pictures, etc. Spoken words (face-to-face, audio or audio/visual) – oral presentation, MP3 recordings, web cam entries, filmed interview/drama performance/activities, commentary on film, etc. Visual – photos, pictures, representational diagrams, graphs, film, cartoons, etc. Interviews Podcasts Oral presentations Speeches SPOKEN WORD face to face, audio or audio/visual Web cam blog Demonstrations Email communication s Some examples of different forms of communication Photos SMS texts Prose Letters Essays WRITTEN WORD handwritten or electronically generated Reports Films Graphs and tables Notes Databases VISUAL Pictures Annotations Diagrams CAD designs Ref: A277212, 1.1 Last Updated: 2/16/2016 9:50 PM © SACE Board of South Australia Cartoons Powerpoint presentation Bulletin board or diary entries 1 of 2 Multimodal evidence of learning is the combination of one or more of these forms. Examples of multimodal evidence of learning include: representational diagrams + oral commentary a mobile phone film shown online with annotations web page with hyperlinks to pictures, film and documents a drama performance including music and commentary. cartoons + written commentary film clip collages accompanied by spoken explanations and sound effects. In Research Project A, the externally assessed, Assessment Type 3: Review, may also be presented in a multimodal form. Further information about the submission of multimodal forms of evidence can be found on p.9 of the Stage 2 Research Project Guidelines 2011.
