Managing Your Public Water System with SEMS
Summer 2010 Class Schedule
The Benefits of Managing Your Data with the SEMS Software Program: Managing your system’s data through a
single software program has many benefits. In addition to making the most efficient use of your time, SEMS software allows instant
access to relevant information at the push of a button. This class will help water and wastewater operators understand the
importance of managing data electronically, and show how this program can assist with state-specific regulations and reports.
Class Topics: Sampling requirements and compliance using a software program, electronically managing cross connection
control and backflow programs, electronically compiling and submitting required reports, making asset management and Capital
Improvement Plans work in the short-term and long-term, and electronically creating schedules and work orders.
Trainer: Mary Howell has over 25 years of experience in the water industry. From 2003-2007 she was involved in a training
project for small system operators in the State of Washington. She continues to train in Washington and other states. Ms. Howell
has implemented cross connection programs for systems across the US. She has served and chaired on many committees and
advisory boards relevant to the water and wastewater industry. She is currently on the State of Oregon DHS Cross Connection
Control Advisory Board, in the Oregon Chapter of the ABPA, and in the AWWA. As the founder and co-owner of Backflow
Management, Inc., a training and consulting company for water-related industries, Ms. Howell remains very involved in the water
industry and has a passion for helping operators understand the importance of their jobs through education.
Cost: This course is $125 for CRWA members and $175 for nonmembers. Water operators who qualify for the Expense
