HACH WATER TRAINING 2012
June 5-7, 2012
Red Bluff (Tehama County)
California Rural Water Association is coordinating a series of comprehensive hands-on training classes with the Hach Company.
DAY 1: Lab Skills for Water and Wastewater Operators
6 CDPH Water Contact Hours
This workshop is designed as an introduction to the analytical techniques and systems available for water quality measurements in
drinking water and wastewater. Analytical techniques covered in the course include colorimetry, electrochemistry, and turbidity. The
course objectives will be met by presenting theory, incorporating practical applications of analytical techniques, and through “hands-on”
experience with each testing parameter.
DAY 2: Process Instrument Verification
6 CDPH Water Contact Hours
This class is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the operation and maintenance of chlorine and turbidity process
analyzers. Proper calibration and verification techniques for each instrument will be described in presentations and practiced in a
hands-on laboratory environment. A brief overview of online pH measurement will be included as time allows. The course objectives
will be met by presenting theory, incorporating practical applications of analytical techniques, and through demonstration and “handson” practice using on-line and laboratory instrumentation.
DAY 3: Sampling and Distribution System Monitoring
6 CDPH Water Contact Hours
Throughout the United States there are about 880,000 miles of distribution pipelines, which provide water for drinking and other
applications. An additional 13,200 miles of new installations are added each year and approximately 4,400 miles are replaced annually.
Some of these systems have been in service for over 200 years. Very little is known about the physical, biological, and chemical
activities that occur within these pipes. This course is an introduction to some of the issues relating to distribution systems. Some of
the topics will include commonly monitored water quality parameters, proper sampling and analytical techniques, and the importance of
data acquisition and interpretation for monitoring the health of these vital lifelines.
