Museums Learning Assistant
Volunteer Role Description
Role: Supporting the Museums Learning staff at workshops and events
Responsible to: Museums Learning Officer
Location: SeaCity Museum and Tudor House and Garden
Hours: To be agreed in advance with designated Learning Assistant. The role
will mainly require availability during the week in term-time.
Timescale: There are no deadlines for this role. Registration will stay open
until all available roles have been filled.
1. Purpose of role:
The Museums Learning Assistant will help our Learning Assistant and
freelancers with workshops, events and administrative tasks. The main role is
to be on hand at our educational workshops, mainly with Primary School
groups. Occasionally, the Learning Assistant will need volunteers to assist
with the promotion and marketing of museum learning activities, workshops
and events. This could include work on museum trails, activity plans and
creating displays in the Learning Deck.
2. Specific tasks:
 Assist with set up and clear away of activities, workshops or
 events
 Support the workshop leader with the delivery of the activity, workshop
or event
 Assist with taking photographs and completing paperwork
 Designing posters to advertise specific activities, workshops and
events, use of Adobe Photoshop would be advantageous but not
essential
 Preparing material to be uploaded to social media and websites
3. General role:
 To act as a representative and ambassador for Arts and Heritage


To promote the health and safety of visitors, staff and volunteers by
following designated procedures
To work within the guidelines of the Volunteer Policy and related
organisational policies (ie. Child Protection; Grievance &
Disciplinary; Equalities; Access)
4. Relevant qualities:
 An enthusiastic attitude
 Creativity
 Reliability and flexibility
 Good interpersonal skills
 Good attention to detail
 Willingness to work as part of a team.
 Enjoy working with learners of all ages, especially Primary School age
children
 Experience of using computer software, such as Adobe Photoshop
 Excellent written and spoken English
 Familiarity with other languages welcomed!
5. DBS Check:
As this role involves regular contact with children, it will be necessary to have
a Disclosure and Barring Service check (replacing CRB check). This can be
discussed further at your informal chat with your Supervisor if you wish to
proceed with this role.
