Scene 1: At Home
(Rose is sitting down, relaxing with a cup of tea and a magazine on her lap and talking on
her mobile phone)
Rose: Hi Mum… So how’s life back on Planet Earth? (nodding) ummm. Oh really, she won
the X factor? Yeah, I’m fine thanks Mum.. not much going on today.. all a bit quiet. I’m
just in the middle of doing a crossword puzzle in woman’s own.
Okay Mum, I’ll let you get back to Coronation Street. Bye for now!
(looking at the magazine, and chewing on a pen)
Rose: 2 down. Famous engineer… designed the Great Western Railway in 1833…. Ummm,
not sure about that one….
(Doctor Who, sat reading the paper, rolling his eyes… and tutting)
Rose: 10 down. Well known nurse, famous for helping many soldiers during the Crimean
War in 1854… … nurse.. ummm, Oh was it….?
(Doctor Who, sat reading the paper, rolling his eyes… and tutting)
Rose: 5 across. Famous explorer… he set sail across the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in
the Americas in 1492. …. Oh, I know this one… is it… oh no it’s gone…
(Doctor Who, gets up abruptly…)
Dr: ….That’s it, I’ve had enough!
Rose: Enough of what?!
Doctor Who: Don’t they teach you anything on Planet Earth anymore?
Come on.. let’s take the tardis to go and meet these famous people!
Rose: That would be great! (rushes towards the tardis….. and then runs back to pick up
her magazine) almost forgot the crossword!
Dr: Right, let’s see if we can reset the tardis… (types using the keyboard) Okay, I think
that’s all set.. Right Rose, what date are we travelling to first?
Rose: (looks at the crossword) let’s try… 10 down… the year 1854.
Dr: 1854 it is! Hold on tight….
(pushes the gear stick forward.. both get thrown forward..)
Rose: Doctor! We’re travelling back in time… not into the future!!!! (She takes over)
Male drivers… (tuts and shakes her head).

Scene 2: Meeting Brunel
(Rose, opens the tardis door cautiously…)
Rose: Hello? Anyone there?
(Brunel, huffing and puffing… comes across to survey the tardis)
Brunel: Do you mind! Have you any idea how long this railway line has taken to be built?!
Please move this… (surveys the tardis) machine, from my railway track.
(Rose and Doctor move the tardis, while Brunel carries on measuring the track, and
sketching his plans etc.)
Rose: Please don’t think that I’m rude… but is this the Great Western Railway?
Brunel: Well yes, it will be… once it is finished… but if I keep getting disturbed….
Dr: We are sorry to have taken up your valuable time Mr Isambard Kingdom Brunel (he
shakes his hand… …)
Rose: Pleased to meet you Mr Brunel! Now, how do you spell Isambard?
Brunel: I, S, A, M, B, A, R, D
(Rose scribbles down the answer)
Dr: Please let me be the first to congratulate you, for it is a mighty fine railway sir! I
thoroughly enjoyed my trip to London from Bristol last year….
Brunel: (Brunel looks very puzzled)…. But it’s not finished yet…
Dr Who: The box tunnel that you designed is certainly a master piece of engineering!
Brunel: Yes, I was quite proud of that myself! But once I’m finished here, I think I’ll try
my hand at designing boats…
(Brunel returns to his surveying, muttering under his breath)
Dr: Come on Rose, you’ve got your answer… where to next?
Rose: 10 down… Well known nurse, famous for helping many soldiers during the Crimean

Scene 3: Meeting Florence Nightingale
(after a short, but bumpy ride…)
Dr: Right, I think we’re here now! (The Doctor steps out first, with Rose edging out
behind…)
Rose: (Holding her nose) It’s not very pleasant smelling! (Coughing)
Dr: What do you expect! We’re in an army hospital. (bodies lying on the floor, coughing
and choking)
Rose: What are all these men doing here? How did they get sick and wounded?
Florence Nightingale: (marches in) They have been bravely fighting in the Crimean War
against the Russians. Now please do talk quietly, you are disturbing their rest. Now
which ward have you two nurses been stationed to? We could do with extra help on ward
B.
Rose: Well… I’m not sure that we are….
Dr: (nudges her)… Certainly Florence Nightingale!
Rose: Ooh!
Florence Nightingale: Pardon?
Rose: I mean, certainly, we’ll be right to it!
Florence Nightingale: Now you remember the rules don’t you?
(Rose and Dr nod their heads)
Always wash your hands between patients… Remember to clean the floors and sheets
thoroughly! Afterall, my hospital is the cleanest of its day and everything runs like
clockwork! And because of that, far fewer soldiers have died.
Rose: Wow, that’s fantastic! (Scribbles down the answer)
(Florence Nightingale walks off…)
Doctor Who: If only the NHS had Florence Nightingale!!
(They walk back to the tardis…)

Scene 4: Meeting Columbus
Rose: 5 across. Famous Italian explorer… he set sail across the Atlantic Ocean and
arrived in the Americas in 1492. ….
(Before they open the door…)
Rose: Is that sea air I smell? (she starts to sway) In fact... I’m feeling a little sea sick!
Dr: (Holds Rose’s hand) Welcome aboard the Santa Maria!
Rose: Where are we going? (looking out to sea)
Columbus: We are heading West to Asia!
By the way, my name is Christopher Columbus… Captain Columbus to you.
Rose: Honoured to meet you sir!
Columbus: (Looking out of his telescope) One of my men has just spotted land! Straight
ahead! Can you see? It looks like China!
Dr: (under his breath) It looks more like the West Indies to me!
Rose: But don’t you ever get sea sick Captain?
Columbus: Never! I have been sailing since I was 13 years old! My dream is to discover
new lands!
But I do get a little tired of the food on board! Stale, lice infested biscuits are not very
tasty!
Dr: Here we are… you might enjoy this! (gives him an avocado pear!)
Columbus: But what is this strange fruit?
Dr: Don’t worry about that! You’ll find out soon enough!

Scene 5: Meeting Queen Elizabeth I
(reset the tardis…)
Rose: 16 across… The daughter of King Henry 8ths second wife Anne Boleyn, who became
Queen of England in 1558.
Dr: 1558 it is!
Rose: I can’t meet a real queen looking like this! (tidies herself up, and does her hair)
Dr: You look fine, Queen Elizabeth will be most delighted to meet you! Come on, I think
we’ve arrived!
(The Queen is on her throne, head held up high, Rose and Dr come in bowing and
curtsying)
Rose: Honoured to meet you Queen Elizabeth the first.
Elizabeth: There’ll only ever be one Elizabeth!
Elizabeth I: Now at last! Bring me some food and wine! I do like those new vegetables…
potatoes I think they are called. (pointing to Doctor Who)
(Rose returns with a bag of chips)
Elizabeth I: (she tries one, spitting it out) What in the name of Tudor England do you
call these?
I may have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the stomach of a King and
the King of England too… BUT I can’t stomach these!
OFF with their heads!
(Back in the tardis)
Dr: That was a close call! I’m rather attached to my head!

Scene 6: Meeting Queen Victoria
Rose: 11 down, the longest reigning monarch in UK history, she became queen in 1837.
Dr: Let’s head to 1837!
(Steps out of the tardis)
Dr: Welcome to the reign of Queen Victoria!
Rose: But she’s so young!
Queen Victoria: I am only 18 years of age, I was crowned Queen of England yesterday.
Because my uncle William the fourth died.
Dr: Well, you only have another sixty three years, seven months and 1 day left to reign
as Queen!
(she looks puzzled)
Queen Victoria: But I would so like a husband to share my duties with… but there are no
eligible men out there!
Rose: (takes her aside) I can introduce you to a nice young man called Albert if you are
interested? (Victoria nods)
Queen Victoria: Oh it has been a pleasure meeting you both.. What did you say your
names were again?
Rose: My name is Rose after the flower.
Dr: And I am Doctor Who.
Queen: Who?
Dr: Who? Doctor Who.
Queen: Enough of this! One is not amused whoever you are!
(Rose and Doctor leave- giggling).

Scene 7: Meeting Michael Owen
Rose: Well thanks very much Doctor! I now have all of the answers…
Dr: Yes all but one! Now let’s see… Sunday 9th July 2006.
(steps out…)
Daleks: EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!
Dr: Oops.. wrong dimension!
(fiddles with the keyboard again, doctor and rose then step out of the tardis!, Owen is on
the pitch- holding the trophy)
Dr: Need I ask the result?
Owen: Brazil thought it was all over.. we were 2 nil down, but it is now. We won!
England! England!
I just want to thank all of the supporters! Without you, we couldn’t have done it!
England!
Dr: So what was the final score Michael?
Owen: 5-2! Myself, Lampard and Crouch each scored one goal. And then Rooney scored a
magical hatrick!
Dr: Come on Rose.. it’s time to return to another universe! Planet Earth is just too
exciting!
(they walk back to the tardis together, theme tune plays)
