(April 16, 2010) – The U.S. Army has selected Lieutenant Colonel Steven L. Delvaux, Professor of Military Science and Commander of ECU’s Army ROTC program, to command the 3rd Battalion of the 13th Infantry Regiment. This unit provides basic combat training and is charged with teaching the fundamentals of being a soldier. Delvaux will leave East Carolina University in June, 2011 to take command of the unit in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. He will be responsible for all the drill sergeants, officers, and staff along with the training of over 5,000 new soldiers a year. “Being selected for this position is a great honor and I welcome the opportunity to continue contributing to the national security of our remarkable Republic. My family and I have enjoyed our time at East Carolina University and can’t imagine a university and community that is as military friendly and as supportive of its Army ROTC,” said Delvaux. Dr. Glen Gilbert, dean of the College of Health and Human Performance said, “Since the ECU Air Force and Army Reserve Officer Training Corps became a part of HHP in 2008, I have had the opportunity to work with Steve Delvaux. He is an outstanding role model and has enthusiasm and the motivation needed to guide training programs for personnel at all levels.” Immediately following high school, Delvaux joined the Army and earned a BS degree in Management from the United States Army Military Academy at West Point in 1990. He holds both MA and PhD degrees in History from Florida State University. During his career, he has been assigned to positions in Germany, Korea, and Iraq. Delvaux is a native of South Dakota. ###
