PRUZHANY DISTRICT
The Pruzhany district is situated in the north – west of the Brest region, at the distance of 75 km from Brest. The district area is 2, 83 thousands of km 2 . The average population density is 18 persons per 1 km 2 .
Administratively the district is divided into 10 village and 2 settlement committees. There are 247 human settlements at the territory of the district.
Pruzhany is a administrative center.
The agriculture is specialized in production of milk and meat, cereals, feed and technical crops. The gardens of intensive type creation is the one of the most priority directions of the development of agricultural industrial complex of the district. The development of industry of Pruzhany district has been determined by the availability of raw materials at the adjointed territories. The industrial complex consists mainly of enterprises of processing industry.
The agricultural land area is 126, 809 thousands of hectares, the soils are mainly sabulous – 42,6%, sandy – 37,1%, peat bog – 20,1%.
The major part of the district territory is situated within the bounds of
Pribuzhski plain. The district forests are chiefly coniferous, they cover the area of
139 thousands of hectares or 49,2 % of the district area. At the region territory there are a part of Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, 5 wildlife preserves
(Ruzhanskaya pushcha, Zelvyanka, Vydrinka, Buslovka, Dikoe), 2 natural monuments (culture sector of Pinus strobus, school arboretum in Ruzhany).
Minerals: peat, clay, mortar sands.
At the territory of the region there are: Brest-Minsk railway (30 km) and Р-
47 highway (Porozovo – Svisloch – Pruzhany), Р- 85 highway (Slonim –
Vysokoe), Р-81 highway (Pruzhany – border of Poland), Р- 98 highway (Poland -
Peschatka – Shereshevo – Svisloch), Р-101 highway (Bereza – Pruzhany).
The Pruzhany district has rich history. There are 35 architectural monuments at the territory of the district.
