The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has established an account with the
American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Learning Library. The
Learning Library is an online training resource for individuals involved in animal care
and use in research and education. This training is required for animal care staff
members, individuals involved in research using animals, and Institutional Animal Care
and Use Committee (IACUC) members and support staff. A table summarizing the
overall training requirements for participation in animal research at UTEP can be found
at
http://research.utep.edu/LinkClick.aspx?link=pdf%2fTraining+Matrix+update+July+2008

the AALAS library, not the AALAS site itself.
At the “Login:” prompt, enter the username and password that you were assigned
(forwarded via email).
On initial login, you will be taken to the your “Personal Profile” to add your personal
information. (University Address = 500 W. University Avenue, El Paso, TX 79968)
Once logged in, you can highlight the Subscriber Center and click on the “Personal
Access” link dropdown (in the upper right quadrant) and follow the links to change your
username and password. You also can view your profile and transcript under your
Personal Access.
To access the courses, you can either click on the “Animal Care and Use Courses” link
(in the middle right), or highlight the Libraries drop down menu along the top of the page
and click on the “Animal Care and Use Courses” link .
To view all of the course topics click on the “All Courses” at the bottom of the listing.
This view might make it easier to find the individual course, as individual courses may
be embedded within a subject group. An example is the Public Health Service Policy
on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals course and Guide to the Care and
Use of Laboratory Animals course are embedded in the US Mandates and Guidelines,
which is embedded in the Regulatory and IACUC Compliance track. Click-by-click
guidelines for accessing the courses for the PI/Students Training Track are pasted at
the end of these instructions.
After you have selected an individual course, the contents of that course will be listed
