You’re Invited! What: When: Who: Where: Why: Animal Research Education & Awareness (AREA) program 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, DATE You and some of your science students SITE To receive an enlightening and entertaining education about the use of animals in biomedical research. The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is a professional, nonprofit association with over 12,000 people concerned with the study, care, and use of laboratory animals. Since 1950, we've been dedicated to the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals and the quality research that leads to scientific gains benefiting both people and animals. AALAS holds a scientific conference each year during the fall, and this year CITY has been chosen as the host city. The AALAS National Meeting is the largest gathering in the world of professionals concerned with the production, care, and use of laboratory animals in biomedical research. To learn more about this year’s meeting, visit our National Meeting website at http://nationalmeeting.aalas.org. As part of our meeting each year, we bring in local science teachers and their students for a day of learning. I would like to extend an invitation to you and your science class to participate in our Animal Research Education & Awareness (AREA) program during the AALAS National Meeting in Charlotte. The AREA Program can accommodate 100 to 150 students, teachers, and chaperones. It is hoped that the classes attending the event have a genuine interest in biomedical research and want to learn more about the field and the use of animals in medical research. AALAS developed the AREA Program to promote the benefits of biomedical research to the public and to foster a lasting partnership between scientists, students, and educators. The AREA program introduces science students and educators to the field of laboratory animal science and provides you with accurate answers to questions you may have on the use of animals in biomedical research. More and more each day, animal rights activists spread negative publicity about the use of animals in research and have hit particularly hard in our schools. AALAS provides benefit to everyone by supplying positive and truthful information on the field of laboratory animal science both in a hands-on fashion in programs such as this as well as by providing teachers with the knowledge and resources needed to educate our children. If you have an interest in attending our AREA Program in MONTH, please let me know as soon as possible. Yes, it is still quite a while before the event, but knowing ahead of time what teachers and students are coming helps us in tailoring the program to our attendees. I look forward to discussing the program with you further. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at 800-868-4002 or by email: aprilt.turner@aalas.org during the hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Sincerely, April Turner Development and Outreach Specialist AALAS
