Native American Student Services University of Northern Colorado Graduate Assistant Position Description Position Title: Native American Student Services (NASS) Graduate Assistant Unit Description: NASS is a vibrant cultural center that embraces and encourages the traditions and cultures of all Native American people. NASS enriches the UNC campus community by supporting student learning and academic success, developing social networking and entertainment opportunities, and encouraging leadership and cross-cultural awareness in all students. General Position Description: NASS seeks a highly motivated graduate assistant who is interested in building strong, supportive environments for UNC’s Native students. The best candidates should have familiarity with Native traditions and values, be interested in working in a highly collaborative environment, strong interpersonal relationship building skills, and have experience with developing programming and outreach initiatives. This is a 20/week graduate assistant position and requires working some evenings and weekends. Primary Responsibilities: i. Develop relationships with UNC’s Native students, student organization, and faculty. ii. Develop relevant programming and events that supports NASS’s mission. iii. Provide supervision and mentorship for 4-6 undergraduate student employees and additional volunteers. iv. Assist with outreach to, and recruitment of Native populations. v. Collaborate with NASS Director to design, coordinate, and implement leadership training for Native students, and staff training with NASS student staff. vi. Assist with the development and implementation of appropriate assessments. Qualifications: Required: Acceptance into a UNC graduate program, Strong organizational skills and demonstrated leadership experience working with college students, Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, Ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and maximize available resources, Flexible to changing environments and a high level of self-direction, creativity, initiative, and reliability, Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills, and writing skills. Preferred: Previous experience working in higher education or student affairs. Knowledge of one or more Native cultures. Experience using social media for public relations/marketing strategies Enrolled in UNC’s HESAL, Counseling, or closely related field. Remuneration Remuneration includes up to 10 credit hours per semester of tuition assistance and a stipend between $11,000 for MA and $13,500 for Ph.D. students for the academic year (roughly August 15- May 30).
