Téma je vyjádřeno poměrně obecně, jednotlivé aspekty jsou roztříděny v 9 sekcích.Byly využity následující deskriptory a klíčová slova: chemical, structure, numeric, factual, factographic database(s), databank(s), chem(o)informatics (v národních databázích české ekvivalenty). Co se týče výběru dokumentů, byla dávána přednost odborným článkům z renomovaných časopisů, jen výjimečně se objevují kratší útvary typu aktualit. Speciálním případem jsou vzhledem k tématu příručky a návody k databázím. Teritoriální, ani jazykové vymezení nebylo stanoveno, nicméně nejvíce zařazených dokumentů pochází z USA, západní Evropy, také z Japonska a Ruska a je zde samozřejmě snaha zmapovat tuto oblast i pro Českou republiku. Retrospektiva je určena do roku 1985. Celkový počet záznamů je 150 a jsou tříděny do následujících sekcí: Faktografické databáze obecně – dokumenty mapující faktografické databáze v chemii v širším záběru, pojednávající o jejich historii, dalším vývoji atd. Tvorba, architektura – dokumenty týkající se vývoje a implementace databází, použitého softwaru a procesů ukládání dat. Reprezentace dat – dokumenty rozebírající otázky klasifikace chemických dat, ale i reprezentace chemických struktur, vzorců, reakcí apod. v počítačem čitelné podobě. Vyhledávací procesy – dokumenty týkající se vyhledávání ve faktografických bázích dat, strategie, zaměřeno zejména na strukturní vyhledávání Přístup – dokumenty týkající se jak částečně databázových center, tak zejména rešeršních systémů a nástrojů usnadňující manipulaci s databází Právní ochrana – dokument zabývající se otázkou zneužití autorských práv vztahujících se na faktografické databáze Hodnocení a analýzy – dokumenty zabývající se jednak metodami evaluace databází jednak samotným hodnocením, srovnáváním apod. Konkrétní projekty – dokumenty zaměřené na popis fungujících databází z různých oblastí chemie Příručky, přehledy, návody – pouze malý výsek, soustředěn na nejdůležitější faktografické báze dat Záznamy jsou v souladu s normou ISO 690 a 690-2.
