SHAPE – BSG
CENTRAL PROCESSING BRANCH
Motor Vehicle Inspection (Contrôle Technique – CT)
WHAT NEEDS TO PASS THE CT AND WHEN?
Annually all SHAPE registered vehicles more than four (4) years old and:
1. Any vehicle equiped with LPG before its first registration in Belgium and then every year
thereafter
2. Light vans, pick-ups must pass CT every year regardless the age of the vehicle
3. Every vehicle equipped with a towing package – a tow bar or a tow ball or other device
– must pass CT before it is registered in Belgium. If this vehicle is going to tow load
more than 750 Kg, it is required to pass the CT each year
4. Every Trailer or Caravan that has a gross weight more than 750 Kg (Gross Weight
means the weight of the trailer or caravan PLUS the load it is carrying) must pass CT
after its first registration in Belgium and then every two years.
Therefore, please check your vehicle registration document validity and report at least 3
weeks in advance to the Family Support and Central Processing Branch – Registration
Section (FSCP RGN) for renewal (this especially concerns “blue plate holders” as they
have to obtain the new red plate – 8 ABC 123).
After these dates, additional fees will be applied.
