SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SCHOLARSHIP Established 2004 The School Administration Scholarship is available through the University of Central Missouri Foundation for a student pursuing a Master of Science in Education or Education Specialist degree in School Administration. This scholarship is made possible by way of a gift from school administration alumni, friends and faculty. BACKGROUND: The Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development and the UCM Foundation began collaborating with school administration alumni, friends, and faculty in January 2002 to raise private dollars to fund an endowment for school administration scholarships and eventually support internships. The first scholarships were awarded for the Spring 2003 semester. The plan was to continue raising money from friends and alumni over the years to build the endowment and offer a scholarship(s) each year. In 2002, the initial year, the process developed into an excellent collaboration which continues. Goals continue to be: 1. Build an endowment of $100,000 in the next few years and eventually an endowment of $250,000. 2. Fund scholarships each year to begin having an immediate impact on the need for more school administrators and build awareness of the endowment. 3. Expand the number of alumni and friends giving – forty-three gave in the first year, sixty-seven in the second year – a wonderful start. 4. As the endowment grows, be in a position to award more scholarships or larger scholarships. In time, the endowment will also be used to provide scholarships to support practica. CRITERIA: To apply, a student must: Be admitted to and actively pursuing a Master of Science in Education or Education Specialist degree in School Administration; Document success as a professional educator; Document successful progress toward degree completion; Document potential as a school leader.
