As the most successful tuition is always one on one I have
designed this format to cater for individual needs. This method is
possible with smaller classes. If none of the days offered suit then
I am available for private sessions at a time that is mutually
convenient (€25ph).
The atmosphere is friendly, informal and comfortable (the most
important ingredient in the creative process – you have to feel ‘at
home’ and relaxed.) The style of tutoring aims to celebrate the
good points of everyone’s work, and develops paths for each
individual to improve. Every artist is different, and therefore every
art work is different too. All classes are 2 hours in duration. Class
sizes are limited to 6-8 people and easels will be provided.
“Pure Painting” Adult Beginners programme (10wks)
Learn how to paint from scratch, develop your skills and increase
confidence with colour mixing, composition, material knowledge and
brush technique. Expand your ability to capture a variety of subject
matter including landscape, still-life, abstract and have fun with some
new techniques. This class is suitable for oils, acrylics or watercolours
and is aimed towards absolute beginners. Please bring along your
own materials.

programme
Build on your painting skills: increase knowledge of interpretation of
light and atmosphere through the use of colour and brushwork.
Examine techniques for capturing composition, perspective, using
texture, grounds and primers for canvas and colour values. This
programme is suitable for oils, acrylics, watercolour or mixed
media. The class is aimed at improvers and for those who have
completed a beginner’s course. Please bring along your own
materials.

Take your art practice to the next level and build a body of work
that is unique and 100% individual. Engage with and resolve formal
painting problems on a one to one basis. Expand your knowledge
of colour mixing and theory. Learn to identify the methods of other
painters, examine contemporary sources and deploy these skills in
your own paintings. Choose a theme and create a cohesive body
of work for display by the end of the course.

“Technique Demonstration Class” (10wks)
Bring new life to your work with a selection of art demonstrations,
techniques and tips. A new painting pointer, drawing trick or art
tool might make the difference in your next piece. Composing a
painting from scratch, using coloured grounds, underpainting,
texture application, glazing or learn how to scumble to name but
a few. Each week watch and experiment with new techniques.
Art techniques can stretch across media, so whether you work
with acrylic, oil, coloured pencil or pastel you’ll find something to
advance your art. Materials provided.
“Learn to draw from scratch” (10wks)
Learning to draw from scratch is an introductory drawing
course suitable for all levels. Everything you need to know
about observing subject matter, using line and tone,
perspective,
drawing
volumes
(light
and
dark),
understanding tonal contrasts and how the light source
affects the subject, and drawing objects in relation to
each other. We will be exploring shading techniques and
methods of communicating different textures in subject
matter. A variety of subject matter will be addressed.
