Joseph Liu

Executive Vice President, Shanghai GM
Joseph Liu was appointed executive vice president of Shanghai General
Motors, GM’s flagship joint venture in China, effective July 1, 2009. He also serves as a member of the Shanghai GM Executive Committee.
Liu had served as vice president of Sales and Marketing for GM Asia Pacific since November 2008. Before joining GM Asia Pacific, he was with Shanghai
GM for eight years, most recently as vice president of the Marketing Division.
Liu introduced the multi-brand strategy at Shanghai GM and helped make
Shanghai GM a leader in the Chinese passenger car market from 2005 to
2007.
Before moving to Shanghai, Liu served as managing director and president of
General Motors Taiwan. Liu earlier spent 15 years with Ford LioHo Motors, where he held various senior positions in planning, marketing, sales and
aftersales. He also served as the Taiwanese company’s vice president of
Regional Business Planning and Portfolio Strategy.
Liu has a ba chelor’s degree in engineering from Chinese Culture University in
Taiwan. In addition, he is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Executive
Program and Duke University’s Strategic Marketing Program.
