MINUTES OF 70th IAPM Kerala Chapter Meeting and 8th National CME held at
Pagoda Resorts,Alappuzha on 09-02- 2013, and 10-02-2013,11-02-2013 respectively.
The inaugural function started at 9.20 am with prayer. The Welcome address was given
by Dr.K.P.Aravindan, Prof & HOD Pathology, TDMC, Alappuzha, who gave an insight into the CME to be conducted. .
Dr.Sankar.S, Chairperson IAPM Kerala Chapter gave the Presidential address. Dr.N.Sreedevi, Vice Pricipal,
TDMC,Alappuzha ,inaugurated the CME. This was followed by Presentation of Prof Ramachandran Memorial Prize 2012 in
Pathology to Mr.Karthik.V, student of Trivandrum Medical College, by Dr.Sreedevi, Vice Principal TDMC Alappuzha.
Mr.Karthik was introduced by Dr.Prema.N.S, Additional Professor of Pathology, Medical College; Trivandrum.Vote of
thanks was given by Dr.Lesitha.S, Associate Professor, Govt.TDMC,Alappuzha.
This was followed by the Lecture: Sickle cell anaemia in Kerala-Research to intervention by
Dr.Feroze.M, Additional Professor of Pathology, TDMC, Alappuzha. Dr.Feroze mesmerized the delegates with his work.
After tea break, the Neuropathology session was started with a lecture on “CNS infections, presenting as mass
lesions” by Dr Shaji.C.V, Professor of Neurology, TDMC, Alappuzha.
At 11.30.am, the slide seminar on “CNS lesions “was conducted by Dr.Aparna Govindan ,Assistant Professor of
Pathology,Govt Medical College ,Calicut.16 cases were presented. The diagnosis and presenters were –
1. SCTIMST – Glioblastoma multiforme possibly arising from a Ganglioglioma(Anaplastic Ganglioglioma) with

The Slide seminar concluded at 1.30 pm, following which the business meeting was conducted. The minutes of
the last meeting held at GMC, Trivandrum was passed. Dr.Muthukrishnan, Secretary and Treasurer, IAPM Kerala,
presented the accounts and was passed. The following matters were discussed and decisions taken.
1. The next IAPM Chapter Meeting (71th ) was decided to be at Malabar Cancer centre ,Thalassery ,on
10-08-2013. The organizing secretary will be Dr.Sngeetha Nayanar.
2. The topic for slide seminar was decided to be “Dermatopathology” and the moderater would be
Dr.Neena Mampilly .
3. Date for Ramachandran Memorial Medal exam was tentatively fixed on 11-5-2013. Any change in date will be
notified later in case of University examinations coinciding with the date proposed.
4. New Local executive members elected.

Dr.S.Sankar, outgoing Chairperson, thanked all the members for the whole hearted support.

The meeting adjourned at 4.20 pm after the valedictory function. The President thanked the organizers

8th National CME “Geno_Path 2013”.
The Department of Pathology,Govt TD Medical Cpllege conducted the 8th National CME at Pagoda Resorts
Alappuzha on 10th and 11th Feb 2013.The conference was well attended with over 230 delegates from academic
institutions, practicing Pathologists and post graduates from all over South India. Eminent speakers from All India Institute
of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Institute of genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi, CMC, Vellore and Other
Medical Colleges in Kerala Delivered their presentations.
The programme was inaugurated on 10th Feb. 2013 at 9 am by the Hon Vice Chancellor of Kerala
University of Health Sciences Dr.K.Mohandas.The meeting was presided by Dr. S.Sankar,Chairperson ,IAPM Kerala
Chapter.This was followed by a curtain raiser talk on “Pathology -20 years from now” by Professor S.K.Panda,Prof and
HOD ,Pathology,AIIMS,New Delhi. It gave comprehensive presentation of the history of Molecular Pathology, its current
status in the world, the Indian scenario, the tools available at the moment and its future in the field of Pathology. This was
followed by Academic sessions.
