IMPORTANT MARKET INFORMATION

80 REARING CALVES
10.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin
A higher entry of 63 rearing calves and 16 stronger weaned calves saw
averages remain fairly strong, especially for the Continental breeds:
Dairy Breeds (28): A good number of Friesian bull calves averaging at
£40 per head topping at £105 from M/s L J Scott & Son.
Native Breeds (20): Herefords averaged at £176 per head with the
strongest topping at £215 from Mr A W Jones. Weaned Angus calves
fetched a good average of £198 per head topped by M/s L J Scott 7 Son at
£240 for a rearing bull calf.
Simmental (2): Only 2 Simmental calves on offer today including a bull
calf from Mr J Millard at £310 and a weaned heifer calf selling for £268.
Limousin (6): A bull calf from Mr J Millard made £212. Heifer calves
averaged at £214 per head.
British Blue (13): The best bull calf topped at £375 from M/s Scott &
Son, all others averaged at a strong £235.
5 BEEF COWS & CALVES

Blonde x cows (08) with a Blonde steer calf (2mnths) sold to £1080 with
heifer calves to £890 from M/s R & S Bliss, Daglingworth. An incalf
Simmental cow (05) sold to £1080 from Mr E Hemmings, Stroud with his
British Blue grazing cows to £790.
100 STORE CATTLE

Averages: Steers £500, Heifers £592
Another short entry saw a very strong trade on all forward. The few
stronger & older cattle saw Limousin x steers to £1160 (177p/kg) from Mr
R Bradley, Sedbury with his Charolais heifers to £890 twice (175p/kg) &
(162p/kg). Charolais steers sold to £900 (147p/kg) from Mr R Sharpe,
Tetbury with overage British White heifers to £660 (123p/kg) from M/s L
& M Stanton, Bincknoll.
The farming cattle saw Limousin steers to £840 (196p/kg) again from Mr
R Bradley, Sedbury with Welsh Black steers to £600 (143p/kg) from the
same home. Aberdeen Angus steers sold to £670 (158p/kg) from Mr D
Lewis, Brinkworth with his Friesian & Ayrshire steers to £710 (130p/kg)
& £675 (150p/kg). A run of Hereford steers from Mr R Prout, Frocester
sold to £520 (174p/kg) with heifers to £395 (142p/kg).
The young stores & weaned calves saw British Blue steers (10mnths) to
£730 (168p/kg) from Mr D Lewis, Brinkworth with Limousin’s to £620
(170p/kg) from Mr P Scott, Minety with his heifers to £525 (160p/kg).
British Blue steers (4mnths) sold to £470 (280p/kg) from Mr E Hemmings,
Stroud.

Overall Average – 180/kg
A few less forward with trade easing all week with the better lambs today a
sharper trade than the previous day’s trading between 195 – 202p/kg topping at
204p/kg £67.20 for 33kg from Mr S Powell. The general run of lambs traded
between 175 – 185p/kg with a few plainer or looser coated lambs 168 -175p/kg.
The heavier lambs traded generally between £75 - £82 topping at £90 for 81kg
from M/s A Weaver & Son.

A similar entry with very few strong ewes, the best Suffolk & Continental ewes
traded between £90 - £100 topping at £107 with Mules £75 - £85. The medium
& half meated ewes traded between £64 - £80 with the bigger plain ewes £60 –

One of the best entries for numbers and quality seen at Cirencester for some
time. A very decent trade for all classes of pigs followed ensuring many
vendors going home delighted with the prices achieved.

A Young & SonA strong entry of sows saw a good average of 121.61 across the board including
some plainer sows. The heavier sows traded at exceptional prices topped at
£270 from H C Jones & Son. Boar pigs traded at an average £108 per head

topped at £150 from Mr M G Bayliss. A high entry of 184 store pigs sold to an

excellent trade and to an average of £43.13. Best bacon pigs sold £70+

reaching £118 for Robin Breakspear, £84 twice from D A McCracken and
strong sorts from J Theyer reaching £76-£82. Grafton farms sold their good
spot pigs to £80 per head and anything of any colour with size sold to over £60.
The medium farming pigs at the half way stage also saw strong demand £63

The young slip pigs met tremendous demand with most vendors double their
expectations. A p[en of super white pigs from Miss G Norris made £34 per
head as did two good pens of slip pigs from Mrs Y Gainey. Mr S Wilce sold
GOS x pigs to £34 per head with a grand run of young pigs from Mr L
Newman, Weston Super Mare selling at £39 - £44 per head. No young pigs
under £30 today which must be a record in itself! Thanks to all vendors for their
entries and support.

COMMERCIAL ASSETS AUCTION
A similar entry sold to another flying trade on all forward. The best cattle (E &
U grades) saw a 610kg British Blue steer to 206p/kg & a 625kg Limousin steer
to 201p/kg from M/s D & S Cheacker. The commercial cattle (R & O+ grades)
were also well sold trading between 175 – 188p/kg, The middle cattle (O+ - Ogrades) trading between 150 – 158p/kg. A few plainer lesser shaped sorts (P
grades) were well sold 125 – 145p/kg.

A similar number forward with reports of harder sales of cow meat saw a
slightly easier trade on the middling cows. The best Continental & Native breed
cows traded at similar high levels between 120 – 150p/kg topping at 152p/kg
for a 915kg Aberdeen Angus cow £1386.23 from M/s N & C Hood.
The best Friesian cows were in short supply topping at 128p/kg from M/s K
Berry & Sons. The medium cows were still a good trade but slightly harder to
place trading between 100 – 115p/kg with the plainer sorts 75 – 100p/kg.
The overage cattle saw a South Devon heifer to 164p/kg from Exors of A Organ
with British Blue steers to 138p/kg from Mr A Hunt.
1419 POULTRY & EGGS
10.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin
Another crazy day in the poultry section with every pen old and new occupied
and a good crowd of buyers in attendance. Quality on offer and trade less today
but the best types always achieving their money. Hen and chicks sold £13
upwards topped at £35 for a hen with 11 chicks from S McGarny. Generally
the birds traded £3-£10 today with any decent birds 38+. Ducks and Geese sold
to £19 and plenty of interest at £10+. Eggs sold very well today topping at £20
for Mrs D Scott and J Smith. A Andrews consigning lots between an £12-£15
trade for dozens. Many of the popular breed eggs £4-£8 per ½ dozen and again
plenty of pleased vendors and buyers today.
