Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare boats for loading
to containment systems, and load boats to containment systems.
This unit standard covers the preparation of and structural components of
boats for national and international transport by land, by ship, and by air.

The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard:
a All required equipment must be set up, started up, operated, and shut down in
accordance with company procedures.
b All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required
under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent and
delegated legislation.
c All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite environmental procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite environmental matters, and must meet the obligations
required under the Resource Management Act 1991, and subsequent and
delegated legislation.
d All work practices must meet documented worksite quality management
requirements. These include documentation of activities, events, and decisions.
e All communications made in relation to this unit standard must be made in
accordance with company procedures for content, recipient, timing, and method.

‘Boats’ are defined as complete boats, or major sub-components or ancillary systems
including: hull and decks; mast, spars and rigging; major interior joinery modules.

Assessment evidence for this unit standard must include evidence of underpinning
knowledge and understanding of boat construction.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare boats for loading to containment systems.
Performance criteria
1.1
Actions taken prevent loose and moving equipment from being damaged and/or
causing damage, and protect the security of attractive items.

Tank levels are adjusted to client’s requirements.

Load boats to containment systems.
Performance criteria
2.1
Containment system is checked as meeting the size, shape, and securing
requirements of the transport operator before loading begins.
2.2
Boat is positioned to ensure that there will be no damage during loading,
transport, and unloading.

Adjustment to the provided containment system ensures that it can withstand
the stresses associated with the distance and transport method of the proposed
journey.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
