CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE RADIOGRAPHY PROGRAM CLINICAL PRACTICUM AND FILM EVALUATION RT 202 Students will orient to hospital radiology departments, their procedures and equipment as they begin new clinical rotation assignments. Orientation to ancillary areas such as front desk, file room, dark room and transportation should be completed within the first week of assignments within the radiology department. For successful completion of this segment of the clinical practicum, students are required to: complete two (2) competency evaluations in exams in which competency has been established in prior clinical practicum courses continue to establish competency within the clinical situation on those procedures for which a laboratory competency has been achieved assist a qualified radiographer in those procedures for which laboratory competency has not been established demonstrate professionalism and high quality patient care. Students should be working toward the goal of completing the required mandatory procedures for which a patient clinical competency is required. A minimum of 22 initial competencies must be successfully completed to achieve a passing grade for this semester. Image evaluation sessions will be scheduled regularly to enable the students to analyze completed radiographs for visualization of anatomical structures and technical quality. Laboratory sessions will be scheduled as needed to reinforce classroom activities and enable students to practice and gain confidence in radiographic procedures. CLINICAL ROOM SCHEDULES: Students will rotate in the areas of general radiography, fluoroscopy, emergency room, computed tomography, operating room, and portable radiography. Focus will be placed on radiography of the head. General radiographic/fluoroscopic rotations will be two weeks in length; others will be weekly or daily, dependent upon the volume of examinations. CLINICAL ATTENDANCE: As published in the Radiography Handbook, students are entitled to 2 days of clinical absences per semester. Those students with absences exceeding 2 days will complete supplemental clinical education assignments. These assignments will correlate to the missed clinical experiences and allow for the completion of competency requirements. The appropriate form for supplemental assignments will be completed by the student and clinical instructor and kept in the student’s clinical book.
