The position is accredited by the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) for training in the subspecialty of Maternal Fetal Medicine. Exercise due professional care in the management of patients who may be allotted to him/her within the limits of his/her own competence and experience. Undertake such duties as the Head, Perinatal Medicine may determine either by roster or from time to time as occasion may demand. The Fellow in Maternal Fetal Medicine will be expected to: Supervise and manage inpatients under the care of the Unit in conjunction with the consultant in charge. Ensure that ward rounds are undertaken each day for all inpatients under the care of the Unit. Supervise junior medical staff working in the Perinatal Maternal and Fetal Clinics Attend all Perinatal outpatient clinics as rostered; on occasion this may involve Maternal Fetal Medicine clinics at The Northern Hospital or Royal Women’s Hospital. Attend ultrasound sessions as rostered. Participate in the Labour Ward roster Provide clinical support to the Pregnancy Day Assessment Service as required Ensure that all new patients referred to the Unit are discussed appropriately with the management team. Ensure that treatment related information is conveyed to referring doctors and other relevant health professionals in a timely manner. Be available after hours for urgent consultations or review of patients of the Unit as required Ensure that the Unit clinical audit data is up to date and accurate. Participate in Unit audit and education session Mercy Hospital for Women Fellow in Urogynaecology 1 Key Result Areas Standard Measures Key Activities Develop a relevant research project in conjunction with the consultant members of the Perinatal Unit, and participate in departmental research The Fellow in Maternal Fetal Medicine will: Learn advanced skills in the management of complex obstetric medicine patients necessary to function as an independent specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine Become competent in obstetric diagnostic and procedural ultrasound, and fetal surveillance necessary to function as an independent specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine Become competent in the investigation, diagnosis and management of women with pregnancies complicated by fetal abnormalities, requiring fetal therapy or at high risk of perinatal complications or genetic disorders Develop a clear understanding of the relevant maternal and fetal physiology necessary to function as an independent specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the subspecialty as outlined in the subspecialty handbook of the RANZCOG. Have regular feedback about performance as outlined in the RANZCOG subspecialty training manual. Provide teaching and training of other medical (undergraduate and postgraduate), midwifery and ultrasound staff. To participate in multidisciplinary education meetings as required within and outside own hospital Ensure effective lines of communication are maintained. Accurate completion of discharge summaries and coding sheets. To advise the Head, Perinatal Medicine as early as possible when unable to attend to rostered duties because of sickness, accident or other event or if it is necessary to leave the hospital during a period of duty. Inform the Head, Perinatal Medicine as soon as possible regarding: any incidents that occur of a medico-legal nature, any complaints received from patients or relatives, any problems in regard to the provision of services and equipment for the care of patients. Obtain permission of the Head, Perinatal Medicine if it is necessary to leave the hospital during a period of duty. Any other duties as will be laid down from time to time by the Head, Perinatal Medicine. Make such reports and issue such certificates as are necessary by the nature of the appointment. Maintain a proper record of symptoms, examinations and treatment of all patients allotted. Complete departmental request forms for diagnostic purposes in accordance with departmental and hospital regulation. Participate in research programmes undertaken by the Perinatal unit. Co-operate with and participation in educational activities and programmes within the Perinatal department Takes reasonable care to protect the health and safety of themselves, fellow staff and others in the workplace.
