Amori Abayomi Adeola Ph.D drdeolaamori@yahoo.co.uk UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA Abstract In recent times, the management of organic wastes and stormwater in urban centers in Nigeria has received greater attention from government in view of the hazards and problems they pose to human existence and the environment. This has resulted in the establishment of small centers where compositing was practiced in addition to the conversion of organic wastes into organic fertilizers. In spite of this, the amount of urban waste generated continue to increase, so also the amount of storm water realized from rainfall which by all estimation is copious. There arises the need to develop ways by which these resources can be better treated so that it can be made available for public use. This paper in the light of this experience examines the state of urban waste and storm water management in Nigeria using Ibadan metropolis as a case study. It discusses the extent to which compositing and organic technology has been applied in the treatment and management of urban organic wastes and storm water. It identified problems influencing current efforts and proffer solutions to these problems. Keywords: Compositing, Organic Technology, Urban Organic Wastes, Stormwater, Sustainable Management.
