OSU HOMECOMING ROYALTY APPLICATION
The OSU Alumni Association and Homecoming Steering thank you for applying for the position of the
2011 Homecoming King and Queen!!!
Expectations: As King and Queen you will become official ambassadors for the Association and may be called on to
represent OSU and the Alumni Association at a variety of OSU and alumni events throughout the year of your reign. This can
be a variety of events that take place in the Fall 11’ and Spring 12’ semesters, in which the Alumni Association feels it
to be beneficial for the King and Queen to be present. You are asked to return to OSU the following year to participate in
the Homecoming Parade and to crown your successors at the Half time of the Homecoming game.
Application Process: All applications are to be submitted to the OSU Alumni Center at the front desk no later than
September 23rd at 4:30 p.m. These dates and times are firm. The requested number of application copies is to be submitted.
Applications are stamped with date and time of submission. A new stipulation in 2003 allows each candidate to be
eligible to apply more than once during their OSU career. All applicants from previous years are eligible to reapply,
but please note that any applicant that advances to the Top Five Finalist position is not eligible to apply in future
years.
Judging Process:
(A) A team of 4 judges working independently will score all applications. Scoring criteria is 20% for scholarship, 50% for
awards and activities (employment and internships may be included), 30% for responses to essay questions. The total points
of all judges are added to determine the top 15 men and women candidates. Candidates included in the top 15 will be notified
by phone within 2 weeks of the application deadline. Lists will be posted in the Alumni Center in Society Squares of the
O’Colly Newspaper.
(B) After being contacted the 15 men and 15 women are asked to signup for an interview time on sheets located in the Alumni
Center. Candidates will come to the Alumni Center a few minutes before the interview time, October 3 at 5:00 pm, and will
be escorted to the interview room. Dress is business professional attire. There are separate interview panels for men and for
women. A digital photo will be taken of each applicant for use in publicity and on the Homecoming website.
Questions to be asked in the interviews are determined by the judges. Judges are given a list of suggested topics but are not
obligated to use those questions. Questions may range from personal topics taken from your application, to OSU or
Homecoming related questions. Judging criteria at this level is 20% Honors and Activities, 10% Poise, Confidence & Overall
appearance, 50% Interview and 20% Overall Appeal. The score for top 5 selections is an average of the judge’s scores.
Candidates moving on to the finals will be notified by phone. Lists will be posted in the Alumni Association Building and in
Society Squares of the O’Colly Newspaper.
(C ) The top 5 Queen and King interviews will be October 12 at 5:00 pm. The final judging session is designed to be fun,
relaxed and to give the judges a look at the candidates in a social setting. There is a single panel of 3 judges for both king and
queen candidates. All candidates will meet at a designated time and in a designated place. Each candidate will have a one on
one interview with each of the judges lasting 8-10 minutes. Each judge will formulate his/her own questions. Judges will be
given suggested topics but are free to formulate their own. When all candidates have been interviewed a reception will be held
in the same room. Refreshments will be served and all candidates are free to visit in small groups with judges, Homecoming
Executives and other campus and alumni dignitaries that may be present. This is merely to celebrate the accomplishment of
being named a Top Five Homecoming Royalty Finalist, and is not judged. This reception will last approximately 30 minutes.
(D)
Finally, each judge will be given a copy of each candidate’s original application and a photo. Judges are asked to
consider scholarship, involvement in campus and community activities, work and internship experience, answers to essay
questions, personality and overall impression. After reviewing the application judges will rank the candidates in order of
preference. Judges will then compare and discuss. The final decision is by consensus. The decision is given to the
Homecoming Advisor and will be revealed only at pre-game ceremony of the Homecoming game.
Judges: The judging panel at each level is composed of 3-6 judges. Every attempt is made to have all audiences of
Homecoming represented at each level—OSU faculty/staff, outstanding citizens of the Stillwater community, and members of
the OSU Alumni Association National Board. If a student is placed on the judging panel, the student will be a graduate student
viewed to be unbiased in relationship to living group, college affiliations, etc.
Please contact the Homecoming Office at 744-5410 or 744-8711 with any questions you may have.
