St Edmundsbury Cathedral Following in the footsteps of Edmund, King and Martyr Friday 15 July 2011 For immediate release St Louis RC Middle School celebrates at St Edmundsbury Cathedral On Wednesday 20 July over 600 pupils, staff and governors from St Louis RC Middle School will hold a service of celebration at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds. The service, which starts at 10.00 a.m. is to mark the 40th anniversary of the school and the end of term. During the service there will also be acknowledgement of the work of Anne Mansfield, Headteacher, who retires at the end of the school term, and recognition of the hard work of all staff and pupils who are leaving at the end of this term. ‘It is both an honour and a privilege to be able to mark our 40th Anniversary by celebrating Mass at St Edmundsbury Cathedral,’ comments Mrs Mansfield. ‘We are very grateful to the Dean and Cathedral Chapter for enabling this. On such an occasion we wanted to be able to invite parents, staff, governors, parishioners and pupils who have been associated with St Louis over the past 40 years and needed a larger venue than the school or our local Catholic Church.’ This is the third occasion there has been a Catholic Mass at St Edmundsbury Cathedral: 1996 St Louis Middle School celebrated its 25th anniversary, in 2000 St Louis celebrated an end of Year Mass and now the school will celebrate its 40th anniversary. The Very Reverend Dr Frances Ward, Dean of St Edmundsbury, adds, ‘It's a real pleasure to welcome St Louis School to the Cathedral for this service to celebrate all that the school has offered to education in Bury St Edmunds and district as this school year ends. It is also a delight to worship together in this ecumenical service, joyful in friendship that Jesus Christ taught us to show the world.’ The service will be lead by the local Roman Catholic clergy, many of whom will leave immediately afterwards to attend the funeral of Bishop Michael, Bishop of East Anglia who died earlier this week. ***************************************************ENDS*************************************************** Sarah Friswell, Public Relations Manager The Cathedral Office, Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 1LS Telephone: 01284 748726 Fax: 01284 768655 Email: pr.manager@stedscathedral.org www.stedscathedral.co.uk
