Needs Statement (Give brief statement explaining the need for the new course or for
combining courses). Does this course adjustment alter the nature of the curriculum
program or the degree to be awarded?
This change does not alter the nature of the curriculum or degree to be awarded. The two
content areas are being divided and offered as 2 courses instead of combined as one
course. The need for this change is to meet accreditation standards. These changes were
also recommended by CCNE site visitors in spring of 2007.

Exploration of system focused pathophysiology and disease processes.
Mechanisms of disease serves as an important foundation for clinical
assessment, decision making and management. The student’s ability
to relate this knowledge to assessment of an individual’s need for care
and response to pharmacological management of disease states is
emphasized. Differential diagnoses in advanced practice nursing
is a major course focus.
