WATERCOLOUR PAINTING CLASSES
Simplify the Fundamental and Discover the Magical Techniques of Watercolours
8 Weeks $269
Eliminating potential problems before starting a painting is one of the main ingredients in this particular class. We will take it a step at a time and tackle
one by one the ever present complexities of painting a picture. Composition, perspective and tonal values are often overlooked and neglected, and as a
consequence we will be doing preliminary pencil and charcoal drawing, discussions about the appropriate palette, choice of colour etc. Preliminary
charcoal drawings and colour tonal washes are a great way to Iron out potential problems. Finally we touch on the do and do not, and the things we love
to do, which is more painting. This class is designed for beginners and students with some experience seeking a better understanding of materials,
design, techniques and drawing methods to achieve vibrant, translucent and impressionistic qualities in their artwork. Individual guidance, demonstrations
and discussions will deal with all aspects of the properties of watercolour pigments, colour mixing, light, understanding tone, composition and the
watercolour palette while encouraging you to experiment boldly with watercolours. The techniques explored in this workshop will include washes,
variegated washes, wet-in-wet techniques and dry brush painting to help give your painting the tonal values that create a work of art. Many people have a
fear of watercolour because they have been led to believe that it is so difficult and one only has one chance to get it right, this is simply not true and there
are many ways of easing nervous people into the use of watercolour. Students will be asked to bring some prints, reference materials and perhaps a
visual diary to get started. We will paint the traditional still life, sea and landscapes, street scenes and we will perhaps be able to introduce people, people
in their garden, in the street, in the pub. With infectious enthusiasm Carl gets down to teaching the basic techniques in a free, loose manner. Carl’s love of
people, quirky sense of humour and enjoyment of teaching makes him well suited to fully sharing his extensive skills with his students.

The versatility of watercolour Painting – Capture the Landscape using Photos

collections around the world. While his work draws great inspiration from people, Carl's subjects vary over a broad range of situations and environments
and his work maintain a European feel with subtle lighting and atmospheric mood. The watercolour medium is much maligned and misunderstood. It is
often feared and shunned because of its perceived limitations but when used correctly and without fear it is an extraordinary medium with truly amazing
qualities. We often hear people complain “You only get one chance at it” Nothing could be further from the truth. It is instead a very forgiving and versatile
medium capable of producing wonderful images. We will work through this and with patience and understanding you will finish the course a much happier
painter. This workshop will prepare you with the fundamentals skills necessary for painting the landscape. You will guided through techniques,
composition and design principles and explore some creative technique and experimental methods while working in the studio environment from photos.
