L3 – Unit 1 Introduction to visual language in art and design Assessment and Grading Record Sheet Workshops: Contrast Evidence found: in Sketchbook, paintings and mixed media work on wooden panels, screen prints on paper and fabric, loose drawings The learner can provide evidence of: R 1.1 Critically compare, through experimental application, the characteristics of a wide range of visual language elements Evidence: shows experimental application of line, composition, shape, tone, mark making, collage, colour, mixed media, 3D construction using cardboard, stitch, screenprint and painting and evaluates and reflects on work evidenced by work moving forward and annotation. 2.1 Apply visual language, across a range of contexts, to influence appearance and meaning in art and design Evidence: Observational drawing for recording, research, development of screen print designs and within painting and printed final outcomes. Photography work (self portraits) using props, scenery, lighting etc. exploring stereotypes and creating narratives. Creating 3D set using cardboard to explore contrasts of scale and meaning e.g. real and unreal. Utilising colour to create or reinforce meaning within paintings, application of same colour palette across a range of contexts e.g. portraiture, abstraction and mixed media print work. Using mixed media and collage to develop ideas for screenprinting, painting and work combining the two. Combining visual language within print and painting work to develop further ideas and create small scale developed outcomes 2.2 Critically compare the use of visual language, across a range of contexts, to influence appearance and meaning in art and design Evidence: annotation for 3D cardboard set, negative space with lined background, monochrome portrait painting, triple screen print design, purple and pink print design and works on wooden panels making critical comments effecting the appearance of the work and why decisions were made. Colour palette and abstract painting on panel, purple self portrait/screen printed piece on wood - annotations reflect on the meaning created or altered by the use of visual language. Candidate Name: Signature: Grade R Outcomes: Satisfactory/ Good Effort: Satisfactory P Excellent Good Excellent Assessor: Signature: Date: Internal Verifier: Signature: Date: select appropriate grade P / / / Comments: You have shown some real strength in using mixed media and collage to record and develop your ideas in particular to pieces inspired by Randi Antonson. You have improved your skills applying tone such as in your self portrait paintings. You need to continue to work on developing your drawing skills as you will need these in all work that you do in the future, take on board new techniques such as continuous line, negative space etc that worked well and don’t revert back to tracing with a heavy outline in future work. Within your annotation you are often describing what you did in detail and only on occasions are you being critical and reflective which you will need to be to pass future units. Some tips….. 1. avoid explaining what you did in so much detail especially if we can work that out 2. Spend more time commenting on what you found interesting or successful in your work and how to improve, how ideas or meanings come through in the work 3. Explain why you did things don’t be lazy and say I was told to do…. or I was asked to do……. Referred Students Work required for resubmission: N/A
