ACTION - INSTRUCTION June 10, 2008 BOARD OF EDUCATION OF CHARLES COUNTY Report Item Subject New Textbooks Overview Staff is proposing that the Board approve new textbooks for use at the high school level. The following is the textbook information. Course: Teaching as a Profession Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction Proposed Textbook: Learning to Teach Authors: Richard I Arends Publisher: McGraw Hill Costs per Text: $95.63; 180 textbooks needed Textbooks will be used at all high schools. Anticipated enrollment is one section per school. Reason: New Teacher Academy course Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction Implementation: 2008-2009 school year Budget Implications Approximately: $17213.40 part of the 2008-2009 budgets (Perkins Grant) Stakeholders Involvement Teacher Academy of Maryland program was developed in conjunction with Maryland State Department of Education, Local CTE directors, and the Maryland Association of Community Colleges. The program aligns with the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC). The Charles County Teacher Academy of Maryland is supported by the Early Childhood Education/ T.A.M Advisory committee. Recommendation/Future Direction The Superintendent recommends that the Board approve the use of the above textbook.
