JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: School Psychologist
FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Services or designee and
the immediate supervision of the site principal, the School psychologist serves as a
member of the Individualized Educational Planning Team; performs assessments and
assists the IEP team in identifying needs, instructional goals, and program placement.
Additionally, the School Psychologist makes available consultation services to parents,
students, and school staff (intervention development, student study team, crisis response).
MAJOR DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assessment and Interpretation
 Identifies and assesses the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and
needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect
learning and adjustment. Uses assessment data about the student and his/her
environment(s) in developing appropriate interventions and programs.
 Develop and complete comprehensive evaluations and reports to determine and assist
the Individualized Education Plan team to determine eligibility and appropriate
services.
2. Consultation and Training
 Provides consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community
agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students.
 Creates interventions for students to support the teaching process and to maximize
learning and adjustment.
3. Program Development
 Assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified
learning and adjustment needs.
4. Professional Practice and Development
 Applies ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school
psychological services and observes relevant laws and policies that govern practice.
Participates in professional organizations and continually seeks to improve
professional knowledge and skill.
5. Communication and Relationship Skills
 Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

OTHER DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Maintains an open line of communication with the principal and all staff members
 Participates in school and/or District programs
 Assumes a shared responsibility in the development and implementation of site planned activities
 Takes an active role in the school site disaster preparedness plan and other emergency situations
 Performs other duties within the limits of the contract as assigned
 Attends IEP meetings, student study team meetings, staff meetings, grade level meetings, and
department meetings
 Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities
provided by the district and/or self selected professional growth activities
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Possess and maintains a Pupil Personnel Services School Credential with an authorization in
school psychology
 Experience working with students with disabilities
 Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning
environment.
 Ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines while working
independently with little direction
 Possess a valid California driver’s license and willingness to use own vehicle
EDUCATION:
 A Master’s Degree with advanced study in psychology
