WEEE / RoHS Declaration Statement of Compliance Cooper Lighting and Security are currently working towards compliance with these two new European directives and will be compliant prior to the legal deadlines. This document outlines the current status and will be updated from time to time as appropriate up to the compliance deadline or until the actions are complete. The UK government has not yet finalised all of the details of how the directives will be implemented in UK law. Therefore some things may change. In the mean time Cooper Lighting and Security are using the facts released to date as a basis for its action plan. WEEE directive. In principle the WEEE directive makes the supplier of Electrical and Electronic Equipment responsible for the disposal or recycling of the product at the end of its life. Cooper Lighting and Security are working with LIF to establish how this will be applied in practice and plan to follow the Lumicom model. At this time it is not clear as to whether Fire Alarm equipment can be processed by Lumicom, or whether it will be necessary to process it via another scheme. In the interim the attached documents give generic guidance as to how Cooper Lighting and Security’s products should be disposed of at end of life. All applicable new products are marked with the crossed out wheelie bin mark as of 13 th August 2005. The wheelie bin mark is incorporated in product labels where possible and applied via a separate label where not. RoHS directive The RoHS directive restricts the use of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers in most electrical and electronic equipment after June 2006. Fire detection and alarm products are currently exempted from the RoHS directive and power supply products are not included in the scope of the directive. The following statement relates specifically to other products supplied by Cooper Lighting and Security ltd. All Cooper Lighting and Security products currently in manufacture and materials entering the company are in compliance with the requirements of the RoHS directive. A small number of non-compliant products that are in stock will be shipped prior to July 2006. Changes to Customer specific products will be modified where the change does not affect the product performance. Where the product can not be changed it will be withdrawn after prior notice and discussion with the customer concerned. Spare Parts The law allows the supply of non-compliant spare parts to enable existing products to remain in service. Cooper Lighting and Security is generating a list of parts that cannot be made to comply with the directives with a view to holding appropriate levels to stock to support products in service.
