‘tribal dancing’.

moves each using the theme ‘tribal’.
 Students then form groups of 4.
 Teach each other the moves to form a dance with 8 moves.

Students must make a phrase using EIGHT gestures.
Students show me their phrase at the same time.

Size
Students change the size of the movement. Making all the
moves much bigger.

Repetition
Students must repeat two of the moves twice. The two
moves chosen must be done at a low level.
Perform
 Perform the phrase three times. Once, normally, once with
manipulation of size and once using repetition/levels.

 Students are to create a dance that goes for minimum 1
minute in length that must be of an “Australian theme’.
 Have 5 lessons (including today) to complete the task. Due
on 6th lesson.
What is due:
 The dance, one minute in length, to music of student
choice (must be appropriate). Dance must include the
following:
- Levels.
- Repetition.
- Manipulation of size.
- 3 different special patterns.
 Choreographic journal.
Brainstorm as a class.
 Discuss the idea of creating a ‘base phrase’.
 Discuss possible special patterns/levels/sizes that can be
used- take notes in journal.
 What makes Australia unique?
 Some possible answers include:
- Bushland/bush fires
- Flora/fauna.
- Heat.
- Beaches.
- Freedom.
- High standard of living.
- Obesity.
- Adolescent issues.
- Australian movies and TV shows.
In groups.
 Continue to brainstorm/choose theme.
 How can you convey this theme through dance?
 Students begin to create a ‘base’ phrase that will be
extended and manipulated throughout their dance.
