POSITION SUMMARY:
Based in New York, this senior-level position will play a strategic role in developing and
enhancing RPA’s public profile, communications, publications and donor programs.
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director will lead a team of staff and contractors to
develop research, publications, events and other programs and ensure effective dissemination
strategy for RPA’s knowledge and expertise about philanthropy. The Director will also be
involved in strategic planning and organizational development initiatives.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:








Supervise day-to-day communications and media activities, including management of
staff and consultants
Lead the development of RPA’s positioning, identity, external relations and
communications strategy
Oversee work to develop donor guides, profiles, briefings and other donor resources
With other colleagues, identify key issues and ways to leverage internal expertise for
RPA’s publications, events and programs
Develop programs to support RPA’s mission and goals, including as needed
obtaining funding support, through grants and/or program fees
Contribute to RPA’s strategic and operating goals
Represent RPA in appropriate venues through writing and speaking
Maintain expertise in philanthropy sector
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BA and graduate work or equivalent experience required.
Experience:
At least 7 – 10 years of experience in communications, philanthropy, policy and/or the
nonprofit sector, including management experience. Demonstrated leadership and
management capacity. Excellent writing, analytical and presentation skills. Collaborative
and collegial approach. Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and accept new
challenges. Creative and entrepreneurial spirit. Global experience and perspective strongly
desired. B.A. required; advanced degree preferred.
