Academy of St Martin in the Fields Job Title Reports to Responsible for Salary Terms Head of Concerts and Touring Chief Executive Concerts Manager; Concerts and Admin Assistant; Academy Trainee Volunteer £32-35,000 per annum Full time position with 12 weeks’ notice 25 days holiday per annum Enrolment in long term sickness income protection plan Job Description As a senior member of staff, the Head of Concerts and Touring plays a central role in the strategic development of the organisation. Working closely with the Music Director and Chief Executive, and as a member of the Artistic Committee, the postholder will have a leading role in planning and delivering the Academy’s annual schedule of concerts and special projects. The Academy has ambitious artistic plans, including enhancing our London concerts series, developing new initiatives such as non-traditional concerts and use of digital media, creating new projects with Music Director Joshua Bell and enhancing our profile as one of the world’s most respected chamber orchestras. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Artistic Planning Member of Artistic Committee, which has responsibility for planning our London season and tour programmes, including repertoire and artist selection, in collaboration with Music Director Joshua Bell Participate in ongoing discussions with the Artistic Committee on key artistic decisions and potential guest artists Discussion with artists’ agents about projects and programmes Discussion, with the Chief Executive, with the Orchestra’s touring partners, agents and venues to deliver an international touring schedule each season Attend Principals’ Committee and Appointment Committee meetings. Concerts and tours management Oversee all concert and tour management including touring logistics, preparation of schedules, visas, rehearsal arrangements, travel and accommodation Preparation and negotiation of all contracts for the Academy’s concerts and tours including artists’ fees where appropriate Liaison with concert promoters and agents regarding tours and performances Liaison with artistic partners including Music Director Joshua Bell, Life President Sir Neville Marriner and Principal Guest Conductor Murray Perahia regarding concert arrangements and touring and rehearsal schedules Creation of rehearsal and session plans as required Liaison with the Personnel manager regarding arrangements for orchestral players Co-ordination with Education Manager to oversee and plan execution of education projects across the season Accompany the orchestra on tour as required Operations and governance Maintain the Orchestra’s policies on aspects such as risk, reserves and discrimination, healthy orchestra; green orchestra etc.; monitor regulations affecting the orchestra and make recommendations for action if required. Consult with Board players on artistic and logistical matters as appropriate Attend Board and Senior Management meetings as required Budgeting and financial management of concerts Preparation of all concert, recording and project budgets Assistance with sales and negotiation of promoter contracts Liaison with finance manager to ensure timely and prudent management of concert finances, including artists’ payments and tax issues Responsibility for ensuring that concerts and tours are delivered within the approved budget Digital and new media Help to develop the orchestra’s artistic strategy for digital and new media on the concert platform and through our website, together with the Marketing team Responsibility for the orchestra’s media and other rights agreements, including liaison with the Musicians’ Union as required Other Oversee the maintenance of accurate concert records, including the concerts databases and details of all programmes and venues Oversee the work of the Concerts Manager, Education and Administration Assistant and Trainee Volunteer Liaise with members of the Academy management team to ensure co-ordination between concerts management, education, development, marketing and PR initiatives as appropriate Other duties as assigned
