TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Mathematics to working within a popular, successful and forwardthinking department. THE DEPARTMENT The Mathematics Faculty comprises eight colleagues. The Faculty is housed over two floors with six classrooms and a large team office, and is fortunate to be sited near to the ICT rooms. The Faculty is well resourced with equipment and textbooks. At this school we aim to make the study of Mathematics relevant and interesting. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of mathematical skills at all levels and this gives our students the benefit of a wide choice of Higher Education courses and career opportunities. To achieve this, we use a range of teaching strategies and put the students at the centre of our plans. The Faculty expects very high standards of both oral and written work and the use of calculators and computers is encouraged in all year groups. The Faculty is continually revising and expanding its resources including a wide range of practical equipment. The work in Years 7 and 8 follows the National Curriculum guidelines and those from the National Numeracy Strategy. The work in Years 9, 10 and 11 completes a double award GCSE course. Pupils take examinations at Higher Level. In the Sixth Form a Modular A Level (and A/S Level) course is available and the department currently offers both statistics and mechanics. Thinking Schools The Weald of Kent is committed to developing fully the independent thinking skills possessed by our students. We commenced in September 2011 our journey towards becoming officially accredited as a Thinking School.
