Structural engineering is about investigating both the immediate loads and demands on the structure, as well as any likely future changes, and ensuring a structure is designed to withstand those loads. SCOPE: Pressure vessel manufacturer, shipping domestically and internationally looking for a versatile structural engineer. Duties include handling structural aspects of design to various domestic and international codes as well as structural design for MC331 tanks and truck bodies. Strong emphasis on design for seismic and wind loadings. Able to perform hand and computer calculations using allowable stress design using codes such as AISC, IBC and ASCE 7. Requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field and 5 -10 years of structural design experience. AutoCAD environment. FEA experience and PE registration are pluses. STANDARD ACTIVIES: Mostly carbon steel, stainless steel and some aluminum Mostly hand calculations May do center of gravity calcs for a lifting lug design this morning, work on a truck body design this afternoon and review an overseas building code tomorrow. Wind load calcs and design vertical pressure vessel and garden shed size structures, carbon steel, stainless steel & aluminum Structural calcs for pressure vessel skid frames including seismic Structural calcs for supports for equipment attached to the pressure vessel or its supports. Baseplate and anchor bolt calcs Structural calcs for truck body holding a MC331 tank Structural calcs for truck body components holding CO2 cylinders MC331 truck tank calcs MC331 trailer tank calcs Occasional anchor bolt design and generic foundation sizing Applying expert knowledge of the forces that act on various structures; Using computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs other Engineering duties as assigned. RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY: 1. Employee Relations: Must facilitate good working relationships among subordinates.
