Jamie N. Pitts, Esq. jamienpitts@jnplawfirm.com Phone: (941) 893-5571 I graduated from the University of Miami School of law in May 2006; my areas of concentration were intellectual property law and corporate law. I received an academic excellence award for receiving the highest grade in both my professional responsibility and substantive criminal law courses, and was also awarded the Dean's List ranking granted to the top 20% of each class. While in law school I further developed my advocacy skills by working with an intellectual property, arts and entertainment law firm in Miami, Florida. Working with a solo practitioner provided insight into the various aspects of each client's needs, the protection of artistic creations, and the operation of a small business whose focus was centered on the arts. I gained additional advocacy experience through a clerkship with the Family Operations Division of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Miami, Florida. Working with each of the Judges in the department, I developed an understanding of the litigation process from multiple vantage points. During this clerkship, I also assisted low-income individuals who could not afford outside counsel by helping them file the necessary documents with the court and explaining how to navigate the litigation process. During my last semester of law school I relocated to Los Angeles to work with the in-house legal department of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), a non-profit trade association representing Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios LLLP and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. Working with the MPAA provided invaluable knowledge and experience in the areas of international and domestic copyright, trademark, and entertainment law. This was coupled with day-to-day interaction with the MPAA member studio-heads, trade representatives, and foreign leaders responsible for their country’s intellectual property and entertainment law policy development. It is within this nonprofit corporate setting that I feel my skills are put to their most practical and effective use and my interest in arts advocacy is most fostered. Over the past four years, I have worked as consultant assisting individuals and businesses of all sizes with their specific legal needs in areas of intellectual property, entertainment, and corporate law. I have helped small businesses protect and profit from the name and goodwill that they have established for themselves through domestic and international trademark registrations, licenses, various contracts, cease and desist letters, and further legal action when infringers have failed to stop violating the rights of clients. I have helped artists and authors protect their works through copyright registration, and profit from their creations through various contracts such as license agreements and character merchandising agreements. I have also helped producers of television and film prepare for the release of their works, through the various legal needs that arise during production, and in planning for the future to allow the maximum value of their work to be realized. I work with each client to develop strategic plans to help them reach their individual short-term and long-term goals. This past January I started a law practice in Sarasota that offers these services to the area. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your legal needs and how I can be of assistance. Should you require any additional information please contact me. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Jamie N. Pitts, Esq.
